Locking gas cap
Last time I had the truck on the road, I never put one on.
With the economy and fuel prices, do most of you have a locking gas cap? My cousin in Texas said when fuel prices went real high in 2008, he suspected his neighbors of stealing gas out of his Explorer that was for parts. After that, he put the water hose in the tank and filled it up. He said the next day the neighbor's car would start up and run bad, and it finally got to where it would not run! |

Re: Locking gas cap
yes - but I was more worried about some malcontent dumping sugar in there; I figure it's cheap insurance, I plan to put a lock on the hood as well

Re: Locking gas cap
I've run locking gas caps since the 80's
I love that trick to get back at the sneaky neighbor!

I got a short piece of chain and found a hole to put a bolt and nut through in the hood behind the hood handle. So the chain is bolted there, then I put the masterlock through the chain and then through the hole in the handle (it's like GM knew!) and it keeps the handle from pulling forward. I guess it's time to buy a locking gas tank, I have been keeping the truck full since I can be far from a gas station out here. The stock chrome one sure looks good after all these years! |

Re: Locking gas cap
Worked at a place in the mid 80's where we parked work trucks in the company lot every night & weekend. On Monday's, we often had empty tanks.
One week, the manager passed out locking caps. Came in the next Monday & every truck had a hole in the tank. We got to take our trucks home after that. |

Re: Locking gas cap
I moved the tank on my 66 gmc to the rear of the bed, but left the gas cap on the cab (non functional), I had thoughts of putting ping pong balls in the filler tube with some springs, thought it might liven things up a bit but have not done it yet. The picture that this brought to mind was really funny..... Kieth
