they are great trannys. my friend has a pretty much stock one in his 99 with 370ci lsx with 4k stall and 456 gears with 300 shot and its been in the low 10s several times and should be in the 9s when his new engine gets broken in

Re: drag racing with a 4l80e

I was running one for about 4 years starting at 402rwhp NA and 3,900lbs, eventually making 449rwhp and 3,650lbs. I was spraying a 100 hit on it no problem (Times in sig). That was a stock 92-93 80E with a 4,500rpm converter. No shift kit, no upgraded clutches, bone stock other than swaping the internal wiring harness to work with the newer style connector. I pulled it to go to a glide due to the reduction of weight and roatating weight. I have yet to take it to the track with the new motor and new trans.

You can if you switch it over to a full manual.

Re: drag racing with a 4l80e

Your opions are:

Manual Valve Body
Stand alone controller
Factory PCM
After market engine management like the Accel Gen 7 or Big stuff 3

You will not be able to use the linkage to shift it with out some for of electronic controller. Get in touch with this guy http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/member.php?u=22521 He has developed a manual valve body for the 80E as well as an electronic contoller and other items. He will be able to answer many, if not all of your questions.
