no ecu ????

I have a chance at a good deal with a 5.3 motor. It comes with accessories and wiring harness but with no ecu. Question is could i just buy a ecu seperately if im just going to send it out to get reflashed or relearned? I have looked for answers but seems like everyone gets everything at once.

Re: no ecu ????

Or go on Car-part.com and find one. I got my TAC from a salvage yard in MI that charges $25 for any computer box.

Re: no ecu ????

yes you can but you need to know what engine and trans combo you will be running. There are a few different types of ecu's depending on what it came out of. Certain ecu's don't have provisions to run DBW, others lack the correct drivers to convert to DBC if you need to do so. Also, the engine and trans will determine if you need the blue/green or red/blue (IIRC) connectors to function properly. Its a bit tough to describe in detail, but I would check out LS1tech for more specifics on ecu types.
