FRONT SEATBELTS dont lock up
hi guys,
for some reason I can not get our front seat belts to lock up. Somebody told me they only lock up when they get pulled hard and you brake at the time? is that correct? how do these belts in the front seat work?

Re: FRONT SEATBELTS dont lock up
Just grab it and pull it hard/fast. It will lock up like that. They don't work in conjunction with the brake pedal per se, but if you are driving and slam on the brakes your body will continue its movement, and the belt will stop it by locking up.

Re: FRONT SEATBELTS dont lock up
I had the cover off mine recently and saw how they work. The belt is on a roll, and below it is a weighted thing that swings freely. (I don't know exactly how to describe it, but I'm sure there's a name for it). When you stop hard enough, the bottom of the weight swings and wedges the top against the roll, causing it to lock up.
Hope you get the idea from my cruddy description.

Re: FRONT SEATBELTS dont lock up
Centripetal Force causes the weight to move outward (like in the advance weights on a distributer) catching the gears inside the belt assembly. If the belt assemblies are dirty the weights can get stuck negating the locking effect.

Re: FRONT SEATBELTS dont lock up
they won't lock with the door open, the white button below the door catch pin is the release....but should with a hard stop
