I'm going to need some help with what to do with this hose... See yellow arrow in picture below:


...and here is where it connects up...


My new air cleaner is like this (it does have a smaller diameter nipple pointing down from the bottom of the assembly).


I was thinking about using a smaller hose to bridge the existing hose over and up to the new air cleaner. Any thoughts on this? What is the purpose of the hose? The manuals don't give a label for it.

For the record I will be reusing my TBI.

Pics of disassembly...


Here is the back of the 12si alternator I upgraded to a couple of months ago. Don't forget to add the inline diode if you switch from the 10si or your engine won't turn off at the key!


Here is the pic/diagram that helped me the most: The diode cost about .25 cents online.


A ground wire bolted to the bottom alternator bracket.


As I started to take this support bar off, I realized I woudn't have a clue where it should go when reinstalling it! So I snapped a pic.

Actually there is a story behind the Georgia "G". Vince Dooley was Georgia's football coach from '64-'88. He liked the "G" design from the Packers helmet. The Packers started using the "G" on their helmet in '61. So, it did originate with them!

What are you going to do with the TBI unit itself? Holley? Rebuild it stock? Upgraded injectors? If you want some TBI upgrade links I can give em to ya.

...dang flexplate cover is being blocked by the exhaust pipe. Argh! Guess I need to cut one of these exhaust brackets.

That gave me the few extra inches I needed to get to the flywheel. Let's keep our fingers crossed that these bolts come out with no issues!

Update:

Well, I've got the new motor mounts in. Found how to reroute the vacuum lines, AIR lines, heater hose, etc. on the new intake manifold. Rebuilt the TBI (new gaskets). Reordered the correct exhaust manifold for the drivers side. Painted them, baked them. Had to fabricate a bracket to help hold the throttle cable bracket in place.

Oh yeah, got the DynamicEFI system on the way. UPS says it should be hear tomorrow. This is kind of putting me in high gear to get the engine in.

I'll take some pics if I can find the stupid camera.

Nice engine, I recently became a fan of the Vortec heads. Are you planning on upgrading the transmission or crossing that bridge when you come to it?

I had the transmission rebuilt a few years ago. He beefed it up. Not sure what that means. At the time, I just said fix it.

Nice progress! I'm going to get a Vortec 350 and rebuild it to a 383 and drop it in my 88 in the next few months. Should be just over 300hp/400tq.

Spark plug wires...



Well, thanks to the emissions system, OEM dipstick, and just long enough spark plug wires, I've decided the billet wire looms will be used on another engine.

New Fuel Lines...

I made these. They connect up to the hard plumbed lines mounted to the inside of the frame rail on the passenger side under the body:


...and run up to the back of the TBI.




Note the different size lines.
