The trans cooler and run gas through sounds like a good idea. But I don't know, sounds funny. Like it may be kinds risky or something

My 72 Nova w/Qjet came with a carb gasket about 1/4" thick & a stainless heat shield (same size as gasket) between the carb & the gasket. Mine never vapor-locked even if the A/C was on & the coolant was running 230* or so. It would act up only if I stopped the motor for 5 minutes or so & then tried to drive onto the interstate in a hurry. The shield & thick gasket are available at a parts store, but be sure the gasket has hard plastic bushings around the bolt holes. Otherwise you can easily warp or break the throttle plate when you tighten it down. My Dad said they used to put split fuel hose around the metal lines for insulation & then wrap that with aluminum foil to reflect heat.
