Here is a link to a thread that started out talking about the SD crate motor. It went on a tangent for a while , but might be helpful.

I bought a goodwrench motor, but not from them. There was a dealer in OKC that was as low as anyone in the country a few years ago. The engine worked great.

Wow this discussion comes up about twice a week and I dont think theres a wrong or right answer. I have the original 350 in mine and I still cant decide which way to go it seems like it just depends on your abilities and cash.
I havent rebuilt an engine in 17 years and I was 17 at the time and it scares the livin hell out of me to try on my truck knowing what kinda hit in the pocket I would take if I did something wrong so I will probally go crate

I bought my 383 vortec crate motor from out of town from a dealer in north carolina and it came directly to hall street. I am real happy with the motor and the price. They were able to beat any dealer around St. Louis by $1300 including shipping.

I'm very happy with mine... has the 3 year 36k mile warrenty... cept when i purchased mine after shipping it was exactly 1500, i guess they went up in price?!? Very happy with their service although i do hafta be honest, i had a slightly bent valve cover and they wanted more money to replace it which didn't make sense, oh well, shes running strong after 13k and over a years worth of running
Just my .02 worth Aaron

I have had good luck with mine up to now, I have had it about a year and a half with 3000 miles. I would go to your local dealership and talk them down. I went in and told them they quoted me a lower price and they gave it to me.

vortec heads are as good as it gets unless you are willing to spend over a grand for fastburns. I have a friend who has this crate motor in a 86 dually with a hooptie carb an its very strong! I pulled my 28 foot enclosed with it and was very impressed!

1200 is a great price if you ask me ...i'd love the experiance of building an engine myself ..but time and money plus alternate transportation all has to be weight into the figure .... ive been getting there catalog for a few months ... hearing you guys praise the company makes me more eager to purchase my 350 from them ...when i need it that is
