Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap

I found a Beautiful solution to the Water temp sensor problem we have with these swaps. When doing an ls swap you may have noticed that there are NO temp sensors that fit with out the gobby S&P adapter. well I happen to me a machinist. So a took a 1986 temp sensor and turned it into a 12mm x 1.5 anyone want one? I made a few...

Decided not not turbo yet Since I totaled my camaro I need something to drive. so I really need this truck done. I have all the parts I need I just need to get on it. sanded most of the fire wall this weekend. It took so long to get that tar **** off that I did not get anything painted. I did get my new lights hung though. its so bright in my shop now and I still have 5 more lights to hang up. some pictures.

I would buy one off you! PM me your details for payment please. I've been wondering how to fix this problem...

One thing about Por-15 on your frame, there's a discussion going on in the Paint section about needing a top coat on Por-15 as it will turn purple over time b/c of UV rays. I used it under my cab and under my bed, it worked ok but next time I will use a Rustoleum product like I did on my frame to save some $$.

Love the color choice myself. I allways liked that 2 tone crew myself. Clean and crisp. Great progress.

Yes, it was that black/ thick rubber undercoating thats sprayed all over the firewall from the factory on most trucks. it took me 6 hours to get it all off using lacquer thinner. I was going to do a nice clean strip across the seam and forgot. It should be fine, it is just a bummer

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap

So once I got it back to the shop I could not wait, so my friend Joe came over and we went crazy on the truck. 11pm to 6am this is what we ended with. I'm so Happy I decided to build this truck! I decided that the engine covers are going blue also, I forgot yo takee some pictures but the trans/T-case was painted the same silver as the heads. maybe I can make this truck look nice enough I can get it featured in a truck magazine. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!

dad said if we find a 6.0l we could just tell mom its a 5.3 did adding the tow/haul make wiring much more complicated? I really wish i could find a good 40/20/40 seat like the one you got. sweet truck it should be in a truck mag

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap

I has a question! I need to install my air-box and there is a little groove on the surface that mounts to the firewall. This groove is for a sealer to make the box air tight. What can I use to seal this to the firewall? I want something that will bead up and dry before the air box has been installed. but stays soft enough to form to the firewall surface. I do not want to adhere this thing in place, incase i have yo remove in the future. what do you think I should use?

Thanks The tow/haul was super easy, All you need to do Is add a momentary ground to one of the pins in the PCM. (I dont remember the PIN off the top of my head) When you push the button and ground that PIN you switch it into tow/haul. when you push it a second time you turn it off. there is no way yo hook up a light so you need to remember how many times you hit the switch, But when you shut off the truck It goes back yo normal.

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap

Tonight I figured out how video games have enhanced my life, You see I used to be really good at Tetris.

Spent a ridiculous amount of time on the HVAC box like 5 hours, I went to the paint store and bought a box pf 3M strip calk. Thanks BTW Scott! I would have never known about this stuff. what a mess I made for my self. but,I finally got a good seal around my firewall. also hid the wires underneath the box instead of over it.

Got my throttle cable, Its way too long so I ordered a 36" instead of the 48"

I also just ordered another radiatior/dual fan combo. the guy sent me the 17" core insted of the 19" core I needed for the 'burb. after month and a half of talking back and forth with the seller. He payed for shipping to sent this radiator back but by then I was frustrated and I decided to just keep the 17" one for the C10. I ordered from a different company this time. I sugjest If you buy from entropy that you be very specific on how you want your radiatior. When i told him he sent me the wrong one he said "well I thought you wanted the BARE minimum radiator :Angryas****smiley: I said if i wanted the bare minimum I would have bought a champion one, NOT the 700$ one. He then said that I had to give him 400 more for the 19' core. after arguing he gave in and I gave up. I bought a American eagle one this time for 1/4 of the price and I cant tell a difference between the two. I honestly think he takes the cheapo one, and slaps his name on it. BUT I wont know for sure until I compare the two when it shows up

also ordered a complete carpet set from Stockinteriors.com for both trucks. Suburban got charcoal carpet because thats the color I'm doing the seats. the c10 got black.

All the seats out of the burb are loaded in the back of my truck and are going to the upholster Mike Harris on Monday. I think he said a week and a half to finish them. I chose charcoal vinyl and he Is going to build up the lumbar and make the seats look like the ones in my Yukon. the seams will be double stitched and NO tubes (I hate the tube)

Today I also scored A 91 burb gas tank with the correct baffles in it. and with it came a cowl induction hood. think it will go on the c10 cause I have already jammed the hood off the burb.

I'm tired and going to bed :lol2:

Re: 1986 suburban build with 6.0l swap

I have been working on this like crazy in any free time I can get, I have a bunch of need parts that have showed up/still shipping that I'm excited for. This build is taking a turn for the more expensive route lol originally I wanted a quick swap/mod to make this truck just a little nicer then the average suburban. the more and more I work on it the flashier it gets lol oh well, I'm having tons of fun building it. More and more of my friends are starting to get into this project as well. friend are showing up to help and its awesome, up until a month ago I did all this work by myself and it was super boring. now when I get off work my friends call and say "what are we doing to the burb tonight Ha Ha

Full carpet kit came and is laying in the suburban, Mike Harris (Upholster) is coming out Saturday to install the carpet. I was going to do it but Its a ***** to line everything up and I'm afraid of cutting it to small or in the wrong place. Mike has installed so many it will be easy for him and I can focus on wiring.

Also mike finally has my interior at his house and working on it all week. I'm excited! i went with a charcoal leather with blur french seam double stitch. the centers of the seats will have a slightly different color leather with a different pattern.

yesterday I got my order of 200sf of fat mat, I'm going crazy with the stuff because I don't want one rattle. also thinking about buying some spray deader to coat the inside of my quarter panels. I'm going to need all the sound deadening I can get.

Bought a 24" flip down Tview monitor that will go in the roof just behind the front seats, I wanna watch movies if its raining while camping LOL I think I will mold the indash out of my camaro into the roof console so there is a screen up front also. it as a remote and will be easier to control up high.

today I'll be picking up my set of subs I ordered from Car Concepts, I chose two 13w6v2 subs. let me just say these things are going to be insane!! My truck will most likely (Hopefully) be in some booths for car concepts later down the road so the boxes will be made out of fiberglass on the back of the box so can utilize all the space I can. the front of the box will be mdf rapped in leather to have a not so flashy appearance. one box and sub on each side so I have room for my air mattress still. It will look nice and still be a functioning camping truck.

still waiting on my led strips I ordered Tuesday, I bought 50 feet of cool white leds strips and 50 Feet of RGB led strip, the cool white ones will go under the lip on my fenders to illuminate the engine bay and the ground around the doors, like a Curticy lighting. the RGB's will go under all the seats, dash and head liner molding for a Opera lighting kind of effect.

I'm kinda stuck on my fuel system, I planed to do the corvette press regulator with a return-less fuel rail. the fuel rail I was going to use was off a 5.3l engine I have, it is a aluminum fuel rail. while I was plugging in my engine wiring harness last weekend, I noticed that the injectors on this fuel rail are the longer ls1 style injectors. so the plugs on my wiring harness don't work, so I thought I would just swap the injectors. when I did that I noticed that the injectors are different lengths and wont work. so i'm on the look out for the black plastic fuel rail that is the returnless style (no regulator) If you have one please let me know.

I came up with another thing thats kind of cool, I could not find a solution for a temp sensor problem i have been having. see, the ls temp sensor is a 12mm x 1.5 thread. the Original small block sensor id a 3/8 x 18npt so after days of searching i decided I would try something my boss suggested. so i went to the junk yard and snagged a temp sensor and went to work on it with a lathe at work. I was able to machined the SB sensor down to a 12mm x 1.5 thread. I have now sold 5 of them on national forums for some extra cash, If anyone doing a ls swap needs one let me know.

Any way I hope all this nonsense makes some sense, I'm out
