NP205 speedometer gear housing removal
I have a new one of these but my 1 1/8" impact socket won't fit in there because of how close it is to the case. Before I waste money on a regular wall 1 1/8" socket will this fit or does it take a special tool?
Also, what is the size of the nut on the output shaft yoke? Trying to get this thing from dripping gear oil all over my driveway!

Re: NP205 speedometer gear housing removal
I think I took a grinder to the part of the socket that hits the yoke. Some would say it weakens the socket which is probably true, but mine hasnt broken yet. Just had to thin out the wall a little to get it to fit in there>

Re: NP205 speedometer gear housing removal
get a set of chrome Pittsburgh sockets from Harbor Freight. them grind the taper of the end of the socket also. Use one of their coupons too. It's handy for other fittings and things... I have a link below you may find somewhat helpfull

Re: NP205 speedometer gear housing removal
I have actually looked at that before and found a lot of useful info. It is threads like this that helped me (successfully) rebuild the M-21 in my GTO. I wish I had time to take the whole thing out and rebuild it. For now I am just going to replace those 2 gaskets and the seal in that housing. I got a craftsman 1 1/8" socket that is pretty thin so I am hoping that will work.
