57 Chevy Fenders

Okay, so my dad is restoring a 57 GMC cab big window with a 57 chevy front end. The truck is in the body shop and the body guy is trying to find (2) clean front fenders to fix and paint as the pair that was on the truck had two inches of bondo in each. The question I have is are the fenders from 57 chevy and 57 GMC the same? Mostly do they have the same body lines to the cab? The body guy is saying he has to find 57 GMC fenders to match up to the cab?? This of course is proving difficult. This doesn't seem right to me but I could easily be wrong so I am hoping some experts or experience will chime in here? I believe the GMc fenders are different in the front for the mounting of the larger GMC front grill, I wouldnt think this would matter as we are installing a chevy front grill. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated as my dad wants his body work completed soon and these front fenders are holding up progress.

Re: 57 Chevy Fenders

LMC truck catalog shows the same front fenders between chevy and gmc. 57 fenders are unique to 57 only

Re: 57 Chevy Fenders

The cabs between chevy and GMC should be the same other than the dash so chevy fenders should work just fine.

Not an expert but I thought TF chevy and gmc had different radiator mounts and grille mounting? What every you get I'd trial fit them to get the gaps right and make sure EVERYTHING fits and bolts right.

The grill, rad mount, and all related core support parts are different but the fenders are the same. The interesting thing is that my 56 gmc came with 57 fenders on it from the factory. On the GMC it doesn't matter because the grille is different and the mustache hides the difference, but on a chevy the grils won't interchange from 55/56 to 57. The upper and lower grille support and grill shell itself are completely different. I am thinking my truck was a late 56. The cab lines are the same though. If you have a 57 try to stick with 57 but it doesn't matter whether chevy or jimmy.

Re: 57 Chevy Fenders

Thanks all for the replies and confirming my gut feeling. Has anyone tried the repop 57 fenders? My dad is still having a tough time finding original fenders that are not complete junk. I am thinking that they should be close enough to make work. Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you,

Jerry

We have some friends in that area of Corona.
I'm in south Corona, south of Ontario between Lincoln and Main.
We used to live in Fullerton years ago.
