Started running bad: maybe plug wire??
So my truck has been running rough recently and here's the story... One day I'm driving and it dies while moving. When I stop it will fire but won't hardly run unless I give it throttle and then it's rough and blowing black smoke. When I get under the hood the plug wires came off their support and were laying on the exhaust. I hung them back up and it ran ok but not like it should. Since then it has less power, using more gas, and when revved in park blows soot, moisture, and black smoke.
I replaced the plugs, could I have ruined a plug wire? Am I running on 7 cylinders? The wires don't look burnt or melted...

Black smoke and soot points to a carburetor issue. Check to make sure your choke hasn't stuck closed or your float sinking.

I'd lean towards a fuel issue based on this info too, check your float level. If you have a timing light you can check out your plug wires to make sure they are good. Fuel shouldn't make it run on 7

Re: Started running bad: maybe plug wire??
How can I check the choke and the float? I also recently adjusted the idle so I may have messed it up then.

Re: Started running bad: maybe plug wire??
I adjusted the idle screw on the drivers side and also backed out a star screw on the passenger side. The carb i s quadrajet.
Is the screw on the passenger side for the choke? Should I try adjusting that again?
