No Limit panhard bar issues.
I am trying to install the rear panhard bar on my 71 Chevy. I ran into the following issues. Anyone have any suggestion. I plan to contact Rob tomorrow. It looks as if I were able to rotate the plate counter clockwise it would work, but you cant because the lower bracket locates it.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Loosen the four 3/8 bolts throughout the crossmember appx one full turn. This will allow you to position the side plate so that the center oval holes line up. Drill the four outside holes and install all of the hardware loose. Then tighten the 5/16 bolts first, then the 3/8 bolts.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
My frame does not have the center oval. I tried to loosen the bolts & move everything, and it looks like there will be 1/4" gap minimum on one side of the lower bracket. Is that normal? Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Rob I did verify my truck has the original frame. Not really sure what the difference is. Just a couple of things to consider, according to the VIN the truck was originaly a 6 cyl. Built at the baltimore assembly plant, If that helps.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Is the side frame plate just installed backwards?
Can you turn it around? (put the side facing us, in the picture,... against the frame?)

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Well, who knows. We did solve the problem with a new mount, and it's on it's way to him. It is a lot easier for us to help out when there are pictures, thanks for posting.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
The new bracket worked perfectly. Also this was the best customer service I have ever experienced dealing with my truck. I will not hesitate to purchase from No Limit again, and plan on doing so in the future. Excellent products & service. Thank You.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Glad to hear it fits right. We still don't know why yours is different that the others out there. But it's OK as long as we got it right. Let us know how the drive feels. Thanks for your support.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Rob, I am FINALLY getting around to installing my PHB on my project and I am having the same issue with mine. Did you supply a new bottom bracket or outer bracket? It seems like my bottom bracket is rolled towards the front of the truck and the bolt holes where it bolts to the outer bracket are not straight up and down like on your truck. I'm not sure if that will cause any problems or not?
My frame is from a 68 LWB that I think was originally equipped with a V8, and it also does not have the oval hole.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Rob custom bent me the bottom bracket & that took care of my problem. I went this weekend to look at purchasing another truck & it didn't have the oval hole either. That truck was a 72. I would love to know why there is this difference. Rob may have to bend a few of these up, because yours will be the fourth one I know of.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
It's starting to seem like his truck may be the odd one out, huh?
I would love to know why they were different from the factory though.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Bringing this topic back up. My truck is a 68 6 cyl swb and also does not have the hole. I will attempt to put the mounts on either tomorrow or the next day but I bet I will have the same problem.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Ok so it took me a lot longer to get back to this than I had in mind.
My panhard mount also does not fit correctly. It looks just like the top one pictured. My truck is a '68 C10 original 6 cyl short bed step side built in the Baltimore plant. I will give No Limit a call about it tomorrow. |

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
My frame side Panhard mount looked just like yours did when I installed it. I did have the hole, but the angle was still way off. In order to get it close to fitting correctly I bolted the 2 No Limit pieces together as you have started to do and then I loosely bolted the mount to the frame at the top of the L shaped piece, hooked a ratchet strap to the lowest bar mounting hole and the rear of the frame and tightened the strap until the top of the mount was flush with the frame rail, drilled the holes, installed teh bolts and tightened everything up. Bar works great.

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Here is my solution. I made a new side bracket that actually lines up. I know this won't work for everyone but I had the tools at my disposal and decided this was the only solution I was going to be happy with. I did call and talk to Rob at No Limit asking about the new mount they made for one of the other posters. Rob seemed to know there were differences in the frame, but did not offer any solution other than to force the mount on there. No way. Sorry, but no way am I bending the cross member by force to fit a bracket that is not right. |

Re: No Limit panhard bar issues.
Sorry for the troubles some are having. Yes, we know (now) about some frame rail differences in this area. Yet, we still have no way to tell by year or model which style you may have or why. This is unfortunately one of those issues that will effect a few of you. From what we know, the percentage of 'odd' rails is very low, less than 10%. Of coarse you see more here, because those with no issues have no need to post. There are a few solutions, the most common is to do what 69gmcc10 did and loosely mount the base bracket and pull the side plate into place. Indymachinist's approach works well but is labor prohibitive to most. We could include two side plates, of which one would fit, and the other would be a nice paperweight, but the added cost would go out to every kit. Or, we could have the customer tell us which one they need and then ship parts back and forth all over the country, also an extra cost.
This is one of those situations where we don't really have a 'right' answer. I wish we did. We have sold well over 1000 of these kits, and 95% report great results and better driving trucks, not too bad, but the issues still exist. That's part of Hot Rodding. It would be nice if we could ask GM why. In the future, we have plans to adapt this kit to use the chassis side mount that was developed for our Trailing Arm / Coil-Over kit, along with the adjustable brace rod. That update will solve the problem, but at an increased cost. We are not in a big hurry to do this as we are still looking for a more economical solution for the customer. Until then, we will keep you posted.
