'73-80 factory color+white options.

I've seen several different interpretations of two tone paint on the pre-81 trucks.

We have the classic two tone with white inset and white roof. This seems to be the most common on the older trucks. I've also seen plenty of these with beige instead of white, or a lighter version of the body tone instead of white (dark green over light green or dark blue over light blue):

Then there's the monochromatic trucks like mine that seem to be primarily very late 70s through '80.

Then I've also seen single body color with a white top (no white insert).

Can someone tell me what was offered from the factory and when? Was color/white only offered early on or only on certain trim levels? Did they eventually do away with two tone completely near 1980?

Re: '73-80 factory color+white options.

Colors and two tones were generally available regardless of trim level;in the 73-80 trucks a 2 tone cost more on a base truck than a silverado as the trim to separate the 2 tone was standard on up level trucks.

Only certain special editions had color restrictions.

You could mix and match most colors for 2 tone;there were suggested combos but they could be changed on special order.

Of course you have to remember most trucks were ordered for dealer stock ....so quite often you will see the combos represented in the brochures as that was usually a safe bet for the dealer.

We had a lot of choices back then as far as colors and options ....now everything is packaged in groups ...I think they learned from the imports that most customers would accept packages and it reduced the costs involved in building a lot of variations.

There were quite a variety of different two-tone layouts & color combinations offered throughout the years. Take a look through the factory sales brochures at http://brochures.slosh.com/ to get an idea of what was available each year.

Thanks for that link! I never knew those brochures were all compiled in one spot. It's cool to see that pretty much every paint combo was offered most every year. Half the trucks I've been thinking were custom repaints are probably factory issue. I also never knew that white wagon wheels were a factory option.
