Here we go again....62 K10

Not sure, but looks like this one is coming back to me. Traded it to a buddy, who now wants my 67 K20. So we're talking trades again. It's a 62 factory K10, 235 4 spd. and Rockwell t-case. It had sat for years, I got it running when I had it before, runs great. My buddy has swapped in both axles from a 80 something blazer. I'll be looking for steering column and linkages and such. And how to connect driveshafts. Here's photos from when I had it before.

I like that truck ( camo and all )! You and I are in the same boat, except you are ahead of me ( axle swap ).

Are you going to keep the rockwell or put in a np205?

I will be keeping an eye on this one. Mine is way back on the list of projects, but I will get to it someday!

Thanks ya'll. My plans are to keep it cheap and simple. The original front pumpkin imploded before I got it. My buddy decided to swap in a matched set of sxles from a 80 Blazer. They are the automatic hubs that I don't like, and the yokes are different. I'm thinking a 205 t-case might have yokes to match these axles. The steering column and box are gone now. My buddy attached a power steering box to the frame rail with a backing plate, and has the hoses and pump for power steering, but not sure how to hook that up on the 235. It'll definately be a project. Good news is, before I let it go to my buddy, I cleaned out the gas tank and got it running. the transfer case shifter is broke and gone underneath, but everything moves like it should when engaging it by hand. Need to figure what the cheapest easiest steering column swap will be and how to tie into the 80 model steering gear box. Or swap it back? Not sure. Should be fun, though. I like that blue one too.

I believe my truck was the same color as yours before the multiple layers of house paint were brushed on. The back of the cab on mine is smashed in pretty good. The front pumpkin imploded while towing with the tow bar by po....still waiting to get driveshaft from him. Unsure what i want to do. I like the old style, and given a choice, I'll go old style, but, my buddy allready swapped out some stuff, so next is easiest to do. They are axles from an 80 Blazer. The Rockwell is divorced, and unsure how to go about hooking up the driveline (different yokes) and steering (original column gone, and steering gear box) Also looking at captfab's brake and clutch stuff, and need a way to mount the power steering stuff. This will be a fun project, but may be a while.

Picked up some parts this weekend. Not sure what all will fit, but for the price of free, I got em. This stuff was off a late 70's Blazer I was told. D44 front and matching rear axle. Full time 4x4, came with driveshafts, steering linkages still attache, steering box and pump, all u-bolts, T350 auto tranny and married transfer case. Trying to figure out which transfer case it is. Being that it was full time should narrow it down, shouldn't it. And looking into whether the 350auto will bolt to my 62 235 I6. Also got the double crossmemember. Since I allready have newer axles on there, will probably go with those, and assume the yokes will match to the newer t-case. Maybe. The transmission and rockwell in the 62 seem to work ok, can't try it because the driveshafts are different with different yokes, but from underneath with it running, everything seems to work as it should when you run it through the gears.
Anyone with any advice or experience with this swap, feel free to chime in.

The transfer case you just got is a NP203. It's a full-time case that basically operates like a differential. I would honestly keep the drivetrain you have and just get conversion U-joints to use with the different yoke. That would be easier than a manual to automatic swap, IMO. Plus, I just like the 4 speeds.

Conversion u-joints....didn't know they made such a thing. Do regular parts stores have them, or would I need a driveline place? I was afraid I was going to have to have driveshafts made anyway. The original front d-shaft is gone, I never had it. The original rear is a tad long since the newer axle is swapped in, but that could be due to the wrong u-joint set up? The new shafts I got are from a Blazer, probably won't fit, especially since the Rockwell is divorced. I better start looking into steering column swaps too. My first goal is to get this thing where I can tool around the place in it. Steering column (has none now) and rear driveshaft would accomplish that.

I'd get an original 62 column if you can find one. Conversion U-joints can usually be found at NAPA or somewhere like that if I remember correctly. They're pretty common.

This should be fun. Towed it home today, about 1 mile on county roads. Steering column is gone, and not sure where he came up with the u-bolts....i have some spares. The truck is squating bad in the back because I found all the stuff I mentioned before and we just slid it all in the bed. I'll tow it around to the goat shed and unload it all after it dries up a bit, been raining a lot. Here's a couple updated photos. Anyone with ideas, just chime in. I'm open to just about anything cheap.

took me long enough, but I finally started tinkering with it today. Swapped out that one long goofy u-bolt. Took out the seat and pulled all that carpet out. Was happily surprised to find it looked so good under there. I knew the floors were solid from underneath, but I'm pretty pleased. I think I'll brush a little acid on the whole floor, rough it up, then roll on a thick bedliner. We've had several inches of rain in the last day or 2. I've kept a tarp over it, but forgot one night. There's a leak somewhere on the passenger side under the dash somewhere. Haven't looked yet, but was a little damp. The windshield and rubber look great. The rear driveshaft will work after I find conversion u-joints, will have to figure out what to do about front, probably have to find another front shaft from a divorced case. Still need a steering column, and figure out how to attach to the new steering gearbox. I started it and let her run a while, sounds good. Here's what I found under the carpet.
