Re: Getting a non running truck started??

yes, they move and look new. I don't know what else to check. Had a friend come over with his volt meter and I am getting good power to the coil and everything.

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

A guy I know suggested switching my wires around that connect to the coil. That sound like a possibility?

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

Yeah, Ive got my negative side hooked to distributor and the positive side hooked to the power wire that comes out of the wireing harness on the firewall. When I touch my test light to the negative terminal on the coil it lights it up when the key is on. Thats normal right?

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

last but not least run a ground wire to the distributor in case it has coroded between the clamp and block...Dont force me to come down there and start that thing for you !!!lol... one more thing you can check it by grounding your test light and checking the distibutor housing and see if it is grounded fifteen years can cause a lot of corrosion and a lack of a ground ...if when you go from ground to the distributor housing if you get a light it is not grounded properly..........

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

Sounds like you are having the same issue I had last week. I posted the solution in my previous post.

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

Got it to run!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put a set of new points in it and it fired up. Actually ran pretty good. Didnt smoke or knock. Wouldnt stay running with out either b/c the old gas is so bad. Draining the old gas now and Im gonna tune it all up and see how she'll run! Pretty excited!

Re: Getting a non running truck started??

Nice! Beware that the screens in the tank (at the end of the pick up tube that also holds the fuel sender) can rust and clog. I sprayed mine with carb cleaner and scraped it off and it worked again. It was really nasty in the beginning.
