black bear tune

I having a little trouble with my black bear tuned lq9 dbw 6.0 with cam and headers on start up it idles around 2500 on start up for about 10 seconds then idles down to about 1200 then 800 Ive started it about 5 times and it does it every time and the truck has only gone from the driveway to the garage since ive done the engine swap, and when you kill it may start or just crank and crank and ,
the computer has also the unneeded stuff turned off and tuned for the cam and headers, I do have check engine light wired up to a light and it is on tomorrow I'll pull the code and see whats going on

Re: black bear tune

Is there a question or...? Your post just kind of sounds like a statement.

I mean some engines start up high and have to settle down into there idle, especially if you have a high lift cam.

Are we supposed to know who Black Bear is? Mail order tune or dyno tune?

Re: black bear tune

BB is a mail order service and probably does do onsite dyno tuning but have you contacted him about this rather than blasting problems over the net in which people may get the wrong idea??

Having done some tuning myself I can say when a customer calls with issues I try to work with them to get them resolved. Some customers you would rather just never call you back but for the most part you work with them to make it right. But the worst thing is to blast them on a forum before giving them the opportunity to get it right.

Some may not understand this but there is some learning the PCM needs to do. Also, not everything that happens is the PCM/Tuner's fault, lots of sensors have to all be working at the same time for the PCM to do its job.

Re: black bear tune

I get your question. I've got a Black Bear tune on mine and noticed some of the same issues. Don't be surprised if you get a p1336 code when you hook up the scanner. That's for the crankshaft relearn. I haven't been able to clear that code on mine because I can't get anyone to figure out how to do it since I can't get the ECM to know the truck's in park. I did have a problem with it idling way down and cutting off, so I sent it back to him and have not had a problem with that problem since. However, since I've had other problems come up (tranny), I haven't had a chance to try and clear the code again.

Re: black bear tune

Send Justin a email. tuning@blackbearperformance.com I have a Black Bear tune in mine and it runs great, although mine is completely stock. He did forget to turn off a code for a fuel level sensor so I do have a CEL, but I just need to send it back to him and all will be good. I will be buying HP tuners for my next swap or when I get around to modifying this one, but its not due to bad experiences with Black Bear. I just want to be in full control.

How long have you just let it sit and idle? It should learn to idle to a point.
What codes do you have?

That could make it make it run very rich. Did you keep your coolant temp sensor?

Re: black bear tune

Contact your tuner and explain your issue with them... Mail order tuning is actually quite difficult, and mistakes do happen. I do mail order tuning and i hate to run across posts like this where the customer should have contacted me to help resolve the issue. I understand you may not have meant anything by it, but your tuner may find it a little frustrating.

it may need a case relarn, startup airflow, startup friction airflow, or idle air control tables may need adjusted, there are a bunch of things it could be...

also check your motor, make sure you have no vac leaks and the TB and IAC is clean. check the contacts on the sensors ...

most commonly this issue is caused mechanically not from a tune.. hope you figure out your issue, call or email your tuner

Re: black bear tune

The 6.0 starts up real nice now, one bump of the throttle fires up every time and starts up just like a new truck

Congrats! So the temp sensor was your problem?
