Nascar theme

First off Merry Christmas to all you! I am thinking about doing a nascar theme for my 64' lwb, I have a 3/4 drop kit from Brothers performace, and my uncle works in nascar...so he can get me the nascar wheels along with other stuff for the truck I will probably leave the orginal paint for now and make it like a 60s nascar truck, just wonder all of yalls thoughts about it!

Re: Nascar theme

sounds cool, I was gioing to build a model kit up like that, to get an idea of what it would look like.

key to the look would probably be the lowness, circled wheelwells, front airdam and tonneau/spoiler...

Re: Nascar theme

I will probably do the tonneau cover, I already have a sbc350 for it that is built and im putting a muncie m20 in it. Ive also got to do the 5 lug swap but im just going to find a 72' c10 and get the rear end and IFS so ill have disk brakes, the goal is to have a low budget bada$$ hot rod thats nascar style if I can pull it off haha.

Thats a great idea ! some rated coils and sway bars , painted racing wheels with an old car paint job , like a Smokey Unick car ,period looking for a mid 60's.That would be cool...

Re: Nascar theme

Just in case you didn't know, you can also use the '73-'87 front suspension for your disc brake upgrade.......lots easier to find and typically cheaper too.

Thanks for the info! I will go this route, as you said it will be easier to find a 73-87 front suspension anyway, and the reason I am going with a 71-72 rear end is because mine has an eaton rear end under it and it is impossible to find 5 lug for it along with gears...right now the rear is geared 4.56, great for stoplight drags...but horrible for highway, Id like to go 12 bolt with 3.73's and posie

Thumbs up Re: Nascar theme

I think it will be a great idea kinda like the Nascar Edition trucks Chevy, Ford, and Dodge came out with.
You are from the South East..... North Carolina....NASCAR Country.
Everyone will love it!

Re: Nascar theme

Thanks! I cant wait to get it rolling, with the drivetrain being sbc and a muncie 4 speed along with the trailing arm set up, the truck has to be 60s nascar theme!

Re: Nascar theme

A '64 nascar themed truck will look great. Although mine is more shop truck themed I did draw inspiration from the race trucks.

Re: Nascar theme

That is a sweet truck! I like the coilover rear, one day I will do the coilovers, but for now I have a 3/4 drop kit with performance swaybars front and rear. I also like the spoiler, I am thinking about making an alumium tonneau cover and have it riveted to a 1x1 frame that will lift up with a spoiler on it as well

Re: Nascar theme

The plan for the bed on mine is to Line-X the bed then put one of those roll up covers on that will match right up to the spoiler when closed. Just waiting for more money, my engine build has taken most of my project money.

This is one of my all time favorite trucks. Not only does it look incredible, but you have a solid theme that works. Plus those pipes rock.

I'm not a nascar fan, but the race look is sweet. As long as its not built for ovals.

Well the tires are 245 60R 18. I got them from Diamond back and they are custom made. Check out my build thread
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=414961 for all the details, it is an involved process.
Here is the link to Diamond back tires;

Thanks Jimmy Dean, Like I have said before this truck is a direct result of this and other boards, I have gained so much information and inspiration from all the members, and that is what shaped my design. Of course a pretty funny movie helped too. But what I had in mind when I first bought it and what the design evolved into, are miles apart.
And now my engine matches the theme too.
