4 to 2
I have made a lot of progress on my Jimmy but suffered a computer issue. Have a new computer, but will have to retrieve pics from the old one.
Here are a few to show some progress. I made the patch panels with a H/F shrinker. I'm going from a 4X4 to a 4X2, hence the name. Was a real rusty POS. Floors were toast, but the torsion boxes were solid. Weird. |

Re: 4 to 2
Don't let anyone tell you you can't put a newer tilt in a 67-72 without cutting up the dash. I had to lose the dimmer switch on the turn signal lever, but have the floor mounted one so I didn't care. If I had to do it again, I would cut the column on a slant and not straight across.
I have some newer pictures I'll try to dig up that show it better. I have the fit a lot better at the dash now. The column is out of a 1990 Somona. I had to pull a few things out of my junk pile to get the column to match up, but they were all Chevy truck parts. |

Re: 4 to 2
OK, I was almost on page 3 so I decided to sit down and resize some pictures (a job I really hate) and post them up.
This was the ebay auction picture that I took a chance on and picked up for $1,525 in early 2006. Then I broke the news to my wife. It sat for a year in Colorado while I moved from colorado Springs to Tucson, AZ and then to Las Cruces, NM. I brought it home to work on, but my son needed a vehicle to drive so I took it to Phoenix for a year. Got it back and tore into it. How do you post the comments between the pictures? Re: 4 to 2
got a crossmember out of an 88 Suburban and stuffed it in place. Took half a day to dig it out of the salvage yard, clean it up a bit, take off the 4X axle and install the new one. My son looks tired, almost like I worked him real hard

Re: 4 to 2
I was lucky, my Jimmy was ordered in July 1970 and had the wider rear axle housing. I was able to purchase same 5 lug axles and change out the 6 lug axles.

Re: 4 to 2
Looking good! To post words between pictures you have to embed the pics in the post rather than using the attachment feature. In order to embed the pics you have to post them to a hosting sites and get the URL.
Glad you got lucky with the rear end too! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 4 to 2
Job change and a move is going to delay this for a while. Luckily I have a bunch of pictures to resize and post.

Re: 4 to 2
After getting the front suspension worked out which entailed 2 1/2 inch dropped spindles, plus I cut 1 full coil off the springs. Had to put new rotors, bearings, calipers and all the rest.
Then we stated on the floors. "Shudder!!" Drilled out the spotwelds, most of it just fell off. They had stuffed the drivers side full of boards and covered it with a floor mat. Great, what did I get into? |

Re: 4 to 2
Sold the utility buckets to Jaros44sr for the price of shipping. Sold the front axle, transmission and transfer case to CCCC.

Re: 4 to 2
Torsion boxes were full of dirt, sand and rust from the floor boards but with the exception of one dime sized hole in the driver's side they were in incredible condition. While I was out getting the front end out of the suspension I cut a bunch of parts out of a 70 GMC pickup including the floor, dash, and the top. I used the pickup parts and some patch panels to start filling in the holes. There were 2 big wasp nests in the cab support but luckily there were none present.
