1955 chevy cab ?
I have a chance to buy a 55 Chevy truck cab , in pretty good condition, I would like to mount this on my 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton short box step side, I would like to use the 81 box and complete drive train, Does any one have any input on this project, or any problems I could incounter.

Do you have the 55 front sheet metal? ( fenders hood etc.) Guys have done a task force body on a c-10 frame. But you would be better off with a complete 55 truck. Not to mention its a lot of work and your front tire clearances will be tight. Having owned a couple square bodies, and a couple 50's trucks i would just get another c-10 cab and build that. It would be a lot easier and your chances of actually getting it back on the road are much better. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1955 chevy cab ?
I would look at some the the build threads that used 73-87 frames for TF. The biggest problem is that the frame is wider and runs thru the TF step area, or gets lifted really high. That also pushs the wheels and tires outside of the bodly line (sometimes refered to as the Hot Wheels look). I believe the bed floor needs lifted to to clear the frame rise over the rear axles. And you have to deal with the radiator support/front clip and front bumper mounting. Without the full truck you will have to locate all the small pieces needed to attach everything together. It can be done, search here and online to find examples so you know what the final look will be and how much work it will take to get there.
