Internal S/T carrier?
Do any of you have an internal spare tire carrier for a Blazer that isn't gold plated? : ) I've found them before, but people seem to want like $60-90 for them.....am I just dreaming to get one for around $40.00? Maybe I'm just stubborn.............nah. : ) Thanks!

I'm looking for a external swing away tire carrier. I wish I had an internal one so I could make a trade. I have neither.

If I recall, the S/T carrier from a '73-'78 Blazer is the same or really close. Does anyone know for sure?

yes 73-87 are the same.
I also have a swing away carrier, without the mounting brackets if someone is interested.

I paid $75 for a complete swing away. Still haven't mounted it yet. I want to get it powdercoated before installing it.

I think the only way you can find one is to get lucky in a parts yard or on this board. I have seen one offered on Ebay before, but couldn't keep bidding. I have no Idea how bad shipping would be. I'd love to find one locally, or know about a carrier from something else that would work. Please let me know if you find some.

I wonder if you could modifiy one from a late model bronco or blazer? I am going to try to drive to alaska next summer and really would like the peace of mind of having a spare. Has any one mad a custom piece that mounts beheind the wheel well like the early 90s late 80 s10 blazers?

'73-up internal Blazer S/T carriers are completely different from our first generation carrier. First generations are sheet metal construction that mount the spare so that it sits sideways behind the rear seat (if you have one) or behind the driver's seat if you don't. '73-ups are tube construction that mount the spare so that it sits front to rear on the passenger's side behind the rear seat.
My first generation S/T carrier cost me $60 with shipping. My $0.02 |

Hey Gee_Emm. Ya I think you ought to. I know some people wouldn't want to use on on their restored blazer, but I plan to. There seems to be more people wanting one than selling one. The thing that worries me is shipping on an item like that. I'm gonna have to do some yard searching down here when I get the time. If you can get one and the total cost (Shipping and all) isn't horrible, I'd be interested.

Are those internal types that Rod pictured hard to come by? I got one out of a Jimmy but it was sitting there for so long that it rusted away at the bottom, I don't know if I should fix it or look for a better one.

my friend has a 74 blazer and a 76. the 74 has a tubular carrier and the 76 has a sheetmetal one.

That IS sweet! very clean lines. I actually like that better than stock...mounted on the bumper rather than the rear quarter.

I'd consider something like that if I could find a way to keep the stock bumper (or something that looks lke it could be stock)
