Re: 72 or 75 k5

I had a 75 and loved it, wish it didn't rot in half. It all depends on the condition of the trucks and what they have for a drivetrain. I notice you said the 75 has a new engine but what transmission and transfer case, what kind of gears etc... condition of body. Say if the 72 is very solid and has a well done lift with decent 33" tires with nice wheels and a stereo with a 700R4 with overdrive and you plan on using it daily it might be a better choice. If you see the 75 is bone stock with bias ply tires and never been apart with factory paint and minimal rust issues and it has a 4 speed manual and NP 205 case and you want it as a toy or for a restoration that might sway your opinion. The next question would be why does the 72 have a salvage title? was it totalled because someone crunched a fender and bumper and it was considered more than the value of the vehicle at that time or was this truck built from a pile-o-parts by some bub in his back yard? It could be a bunch of miss-matched stuff slapped together from 20 years ago or it could have been a well-planned older project. Its hard to say without having pictures and specs on both vehicles or better yet-seeing them both in person. It doesn't hurt to offer less than the advertised posting which may leave you some cash for improvements. Either way, both are nice looking rigs and are very functional for a variety of uses. As long as you aren't stuck working on it more than driving it I'd say either truck would be a good choice
