Re: Rally Wheel restoration

Sidebar: I used it on my grille and headlight bezels, too, since it was the right color:

The grille itself was used, purchased from ScottH (thanks again, Scott). I sprayed it with Duplicolor Argent silver (FM149), along with the headlight bezels. I reused his parking lamps and stainless, with the exception of the center bars (new) and I also replaced the stainless around the grill opening.

I repainted my original bowtie while I was at it, retouching the black border around the chrome and then the "gold/yellow" in the center

This shows the center bars, painted body colored (Duplicolor red WA 7475, code 72).

Re: Rally Wheel restoration

I wound up getting the Argent rally wheel paint from Eastwoods. After reading Keith's post above I got a couple of extra cans and hopefully will repaint my grill and headlight frames also (not that I was looking to add anything to my list of stuff to do.)

here's a crappy phone pic after first coat. I will get some clear for the finished product.

thanks everyone for the input.

I took my time prepping and painting the wheels, $100.00 ea for powder coating seemed crazy. I also researched dozens of tire options so I could get the most rubber without having to lift. There is about an inch clearance when turned to lock.

Re: Rally Wheel restoration

Yeah Baldwin,Ouch, $100 a wheel is a bit I think. I should jump all over the shop that told me $50 a wheel. As soon as funds permit I am hoping soon to get mine powder coated.

Re: Rally Wheel restoration

$100 a wheel is pretty steep, one day after the body gets done on my truck I will do this to my rims. Great job man.

Re: Rally Wheel restoration

They look like Van Rally's. They are shallow, the truck rally's are a deeper dish. Some people run the van rally's up front and the truck ones on the rear for a staggard look.

yeah i thought that might be the case considering my tucks a 1986 but they are marked '87 on the rims buuut i do have 2 of the deeper dish ones too and the staggered idea sounds kinda neat especially for what im going for! are they any difference in width ? or just dished differently?... time to get sandblasting and painting again :P

The van wheels are 6.5 inches insided bead to inside bead. Then there are 7 and 8 inch wheels. The 8s are the most popular.

There is a lot of good information in this thread.
