Where Can I get 55-59 Stock Rims?

Hey guys, I am looking for a set of stock rims for my 56 3200. I know they are 15" and I beleive 5 or 5.5" wide. You can correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone know where I could pick up a set? I am located in Kansas City, Missouri, but I would be willing to pay shipping to get a original set in any condition.

There should be plenty of guys who have good original wheels laying around that they have pulled off a truck that they put custom wheels on.

I'd say try a Criaigslist add locally but my experience with placing an Item wanted add on Craigslist is that the scammers seem to love to respond to those.

They are getting harder and harder to find by the day. Especially since so many trucks are getting scrapped(last drive to China). I should say harder to find good ones. 55-59 were a breed of their own. Usually 15 inch (some 16 but rare, different than the 47-53 trucks) with three hubcap clips . There are actually holes for 6 clips but only three were used. Many guys are using this rim on the 47-53 trucks to get the 15 inch tire and accept their hubcaps.

Few things to look for:

First make sure it is really a 55-59 Chevy/GMC Rim

Check each lug nut hole as they are over 50 years old. From being over tightened to run loose . Overtightened(strong farmers and air impacts) will show signs of a pushed ring of metal on the front and back side of the lug hole. Signs of a loose lugnut will be oblong, oval , or distored .

Check valve stem core area closely. Kind of the heart of the rim. Often times over the years the rims had a tire tube inserted into them. This would let water set in the stem area inside the rim. It would then become pitted and and will make it very hard to install a tubeless valve stem. I have seen some people weld a small flat washer to the inside of the rim in pitted area. Better to weld up , smooth back down and redrill hole to correct size. Actually better to buy a good rim to start with.

Check bead area for pitting . It will have to be good or your tire will not seal

Check for bent lips on the rim. Also for runout to be sure they are true. Don't want a wobbler.

Try to buy a rim with the tire off. You will see what you are getting.

Its easy to find them in poor condition. Very hard to find in good condition.

Lot of truck guys in the KC area , maybe a wanted add but like someone else mentioned the scammers. Might check with the dealers as they used to have some used parts. Not sure if they keep anything used with all the new Chinolet parts out there. Many have abandoned selling used.
