Re: How about some pics of 73-87 Long Beds?

This is my '85 Chevy Custom 10.It was my uncle's,but,he passed away in 2002,and the truck just sat for 7 years.
Finally, because I hate seeing trucks just rust away,I asked my Aunt Ruth about it. She told me no-one in the family wanted it.When I asked how much to buy it,she pulled the keys & title out of a drawer, and said "If you take me to the DMV,you can HAVE it!" It took us about 5 inutes to get there!!
My uncle ALWAYS took care of his truck, and I intend to restore it.I will swap the engine for the 350(305 in it),and as you can see,I put lights in the rear bumper,as back-up lamps ,and camoed the dash & insert.I hated trying to see in the dark,so I added lamps, and a switch,to the topper.

Oh it's nothing special really. Just another worn out square i saved from the junkyard. It is all original, but rough. But it's allways been dependable in the two years I've owned it.
I removed some leafs and cut the coils. I painted those H2 wheels, and it was a pain, but worth it.
It originally had a 454, but came with a worn out 305 that is still running somehow.

Unfortunately it's going to be replaced by a mini truck due to high gas prices.

Heres my beater..

Just spray bombed it. Super rusted but still a nice little shop truck for $800. Got a flip kit on the way right now and i'll put on some stock size whitewalls too. Good for hauling the dirt bike around. Will be easier to load it also when its dropped down.

Very nice longbed for the price! What bike do you ride? I have an RM125 and RMZ250. A lowered ride CERTAINLY is nice at the track when you are too darn tired to load up. It's funny because everyone I know has huge lifted trucks and they always need help loading up after riding. I simply walk mine into the truck effortlessly while everyone looks in shock!

Wow, 15K miles. I have a 1986 GMC that is similar that I posted in "show and tell" here back about post #1180 quite a while ago when it had 38K miles. I thought I had a low mileage truck. Not compared to yours!!!! I have finally gotten to the point I really need to sell it with 39K original miles to make more space and started thumbing through here. I guess when I place my add I need to state "high mileage" at 39K original miles. Wow. I wish I had more space to store mine, but when I put it in the back of the hangar with 3 aircraft it is a hassle to get it out just to drive around every once in a while, so it gets neglected. It will probably still be a better truck in another 10 years than my '11 Suburban when all the creature comfort electrical and electronic crap starts failing. Thanks for sharing with us. They just do not make trucks like this anymore, I guess they are only original once in their life.
