Anyone know where to find AD truck design photos from GM design studio?
I forget if I posted this here but I am looking for photos that I had in some restoration magazine. I don't remember the name of it but darn I guess I tossed it out or simply misplaced it but I want to see these photos again and can't find them anywhere on the net. Any ideas guys?
Brian

search the archive for chuck Jordan or Charles M Jordan and Luther Stier, Willian F Lange also They were the designers in that era. Google patents also has some interesting things http://www.google.com/patents/USD177...page&q&f=false http://www.google.com/patents?id=jEd...page&q&f=false |

Again, thanks so much. That is an awesome site and I will be spending a bunch of time there. I searched and didn't find anything yet but will keep looking, lots of interesting stuff besides exactly what I am looking for. Thanks!

type your description into the google images search page, such as "AD truck design photos from GM design studio" It will give you images that may match your memory, if not fun to look at.

Re: Anyone know where to find AD truck design photos from GM design studio?
The 1947 Chevrolet pickup design had been in the works in Harley Earl's GM Styling Section since at least 1942. Harley J. Earl was GM's first vice president of design and the undisputed trend leader in American vehicle design. Precisely who was involved in the 1947 truck designs is uncertain. However, several clay models from 1943 showed the beginnings of the 1947 design: headlights integrated into the front fenders, tall hood, and split windshield. But these clays also had more sedanlike grilles and bumpers. Where the final production grille and interior came from also remains a mystery.
There was no identifiable truck studio within GM Styling during and just after World War II. GM's first dedicated truck and coach studio, under Luther W. Stier, came into being on November 21, 1949. However, Lu Stier had previously been a member of the Chevrolet passenger-car studio, so it's possible that he'd been one of the designers working on the new look for Chevy's 1947 trucks. Source: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1947-1...let-trucks.htm At least they reference what the differences were in the initial concept design. This might be a picture of them working on one: http://www.gmphotostore.com/1948-Mod...info/53216868/ Last edited by robin58; 03-12-2012 at 05:15 PM. |

This is killing me, I had this magazine that had a number of photos of the AD with different grilles, mouldings on the fenders, different bumpers, it was really neat. It's hard to tell with that clay model, looks an awful lot like a sedan.

Re: Anyone know where to find AD truck design photos from GM design studio?
I found it! WHOOOO HOOO, it's the Feb 2004 issue of Collectible Automobile magazine. Found it up in my attic today by accident (natch). I knew I wouldn't have thrown it away.
Here are a few drawings made by Chuck Jordan. Looks like they were working on a Cameo like truck in the AD years, too cool. Some other drawings and clay mockups as well. Brian

Thanks for posting that. Someone with more time and ambition than I have should build that Cameo with the '40s Buick style front fender extensions. That's just plain cool.
