Air Pumps Removed. Now What?
Truck is an 86 GMC 1-Ton dually w/454.
I have the air pumps and all related vacuum lines, hoses and valves removed. I was not able to remove the air tube fittings from the manifolds. I have the holes plugged right above the check valves for now. I still have a few things that I am not sure about. They are the deceleration valve, the EGR valve, the control module, and the control relay. I don't know if they will have to stay or not. Is there anything more I can do without getting inside the engine? At $500 plus, are headers really worthwhile? Thanks for your help, Les |

Re: Air Pumps Removed. Now What?
Try the cheap painted headers and see if they're worth it. About 140.00 pr.
Do you have the factory dual exhaust? Mine didn't have any controls other than a knock sensor. My EGR is still there, just not hooked up. I believe the de-cell went with the pumps and plumbing (maybe). I did keep the PCV and vapor canister. I went with the headers when I tried to remove the spider from the manifold, and galled every one I broke loose. Painted headers were cheaper than replacing the manifolds. I did find out that the air tubes go to the manifold, inside the manifold is another "stub" air tube. It actually is in the manifold and extends into the exhaust port of the head about 1-1/2", same diameter as the spider tubes.
