SBC 327 Head Choosing Help?
Hey Guys
I need your suggestions I am like everyone here mostly on a budget on. A good friend gave me a complete rebuilt 1968 327 Large journal SBC bored 30 over. It came with power pack heads that need work plus I dont know if they are set up for unleaded fuel. I want to stay with stock reground cam since it has hardly any miles and I dont want to remove it. I wont be doing any racing just cruzin. do you have any suggestions as to what set of new or used heads will work good for a stocker 327 motor for unleaded gas. I dont want to put later vortec heads cause I already have a 12 bolt polished intake and straight across valve covers unlike the vortec design. And I would like to use accessory brackets that bolt to the heads. I have looked on egay and craigslist but all the new selections have 202 valves. I also have a set of 305 High Output 14014416 heads (184). These are off a camaro Z28. Any suggestions as to what I should run or look for and would the 305 be okay for this application? I know this is alot but info but any help would be appreciated. |

Re: SBC 327 Head Choosing Help?
I rebuilt my 327 (bored 40 over) and bought vortec heads from Comp Cams they had bolt holes for both types of manifolds mine are 202 valves but they have them with 1.94 valves. They are RHS heads, if you contact Comp Cams or RHS they will tell you what your options are. Here is a link to the RHS website.

Re: SBC 327 Head Choosing Help?
Hi - well, everyone's situation is unique, and theres 1000 variables - that said, those 305 HO heads on your 327 would probably give you 9.7-10.5-1 compression, depending on the pistons you have. I am running those heads on my 350 with a comp cam (magnum) and I'm here to tell you, the truck has a ton of snap to it - just messing
I layed a 80 foot scratch the other day without burying the gas pedal I think those would be great for you for street driving. Why spend a ton of cash when you already have a good solution right...? |

Re: SBC 327 Head Choosing Help?
I think i would do the 305s.
My truck has a SJ 327 with power pack heads. Mine runs just fine after getting the right carb on it. I would think those 305s with a small holley would make a potent set up. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: SBC 327 Head Choosing Help?
I would find a set of 194's in the mid seventy's, they will have hardend seats and will keep the compression down for todays fuel. They are easy to find and inexpensive.
