I've used a broker out of Atlanta about 10 times. His name is Roy Podolin and the company name is Transport Time, his site is http://www.transporttime.com I've never had an issue with him or his contracted drivers. In fact, one of his guys picked up an '84 2wd shortbed I had for sale last Wednesday. You can get a free quote on his site.

I know gcburdic used him for his Burb too.

In some cases, (not all) you may pay a "little" more to use a broker, but it takes a lot less time than dealing directly with a driver. But, many times, he is cheaper because he can "shop" around your pickup.

Unless you live on a major interstate intersection, the likelihood that a driver will be coming past your exit is slim. Brokers have a whole network of drivers, I've had them pick up vehicles the same day they've paid. Sometimes it has taken a little longer if the drop off point is off the beaten path.

I just this past week received my latest, a K-20 suburban, from Montana to me here in Florida. I tried searching here for info and got a little heat. The suburban didn't cost alot but most shippers wanted one dollar per mile( in my case $2,200).I only paid $2,500.00for the suburban with extra parts.

In the end I used a broker thru u-ship whom gave it to a company who sub'd it to a guy named G.David Baker (1-678-925-0366) who uses a multi carrier. I paid $1,650.00 and of that u-ship got $169.15, the broker got $80.85, the company that took the order got 20% of $1,400.00 and David (thats what he goes by) got the rest.

He was very nice and accommodating, though the delivery date changed often. His only problem was the company (ies) told him that it was a 1500 series and they said nothing about the big front bumper plus the parts that I listed with my bid request. See photos.

I'm trying to get a 1 ton delivered from Utah to south Florida also. I'm sort of skeptical with how the bids range on the transport from u-ship. I might just call your guy ThreeQtr and see what he says. Thanks for the info...

He seems like a nice guy, I believe he is retired military . He and his wife live full time in their truck traveling back and forth cross country. He also is suppose to be fully insured, he drove the suburban the last leg and said 'he' was covered to do so.The delay in delivery came from picking up and dropping loads off (obviously) and sight seeing along the way.

That bread truck on the back of his trailer didn't run and he unloaded and reloaded it before I got there at 7:15 am. We were to meet up at between 7:30 & 8:00.

You should give Roy at transport time a shot too. It would at least give you a second opinion.

I've got one.
Several years ago I bought an old Mopar and hired a broker to have it shipped from MD to VA. The trucker only tied it down it two points, went around an interstate exit ramp too fast and the car slid partially off, approx $2k in damages to a car I paid 2500 for.
Where the problem came (and the lesson that I learned) the broker was based in NY, and the carrier in another state that I don't remember. After about a month with very little response from anyone about my claim, I went to an attorney. He told me, since neither the broker or carrier had an office in VA, I would have to file a claim in NY or the carrier's state and hire an attorney in that state.
Lesson: hire someone with an office in your home state.
The ending to the story: the carrier's insurance FINALLY showed up after two months for an estimate and I was eventually paid.
