Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
Got a little farther friday. got the hood and fenders off and ran into a problem getting the core support bolts out, they turned just enough to let the them just turn in the holes. It looks like the plates that keep them from turning are too short. So I being too lazy to drag the welding cart 200 feet up a inclined driveway took the bolts holding the bed to the frame out. The bolts holding the bed sides to the floor are kind of a pain. They all have broke loose though. So far so good Everything is comming apart a hell of a lot easier than I thought it would! Almost too easy The worst part is the wasps trying to take over they startet just after the first parts came off Maybe the PB Blaster attracts them?

Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
The yellow one must have spent its life in the valley away from the salt so it really isn't that bad. Most of my problems have been trying to do things that take 2 people by myself. I usually can get away with it if I am close enough to the shop.

Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
Had another brain fart today, this morning I am looking for parts to build a cab dolly. this is what I came up with: 16.5 feet of 3" I beam 4 mid 1990s saturn spindles and 20 feet of 2"X2" 120 wall tube. The plan, if my wife lets me have the spindles off her defunked saturn. Use the I beam for the sides spaced at 35"or so. tube for ends and legs and a spindle at on each leg. Steering setup like a big garden cart. I want to use the I beam because it would be easy to clamp to. i can use the e-brake too. this would be great for sanding and grinding outside and weldimg and painting inside. using the saturn wheels and tires should make it roll easy too

Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
Got side tracked today and cleaned this up a bit. and found enough parts for the blackout driving light. Of course it isn't all stock but none of the rest is either.

Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
This looks like a cool build. On any of those cool old big rigs do you have any old cummins emblems? Im just looking for a image to copy . When my 56 is done Im going to put a old school logo on the door for my marine transport/ service company. going to paint it and then sand it down and age it to suit the old truck. thought a old looking cummins script on the fender may look cool as well.

Re: 72 cummins build brutus ii
Still on hold but I decided to use the 72 frame. It turns out that even though the Dodge frame has all the components mounted too many need to be moved. besides I can work on the 72 and drive the dodge.
I now have the trans/transfer case and front axle out of the donor. |
