overheat issue strange
I had my truck parked for a few weeks to change the flywheel and starter. I got finished today. I got it cranked and not the temp goes to 200 really fast. I took the upper radiator hose off and no flow. the lower hose gets hot. The heat works.
Could this be a timing issue, I also get popping when I press accelerator, the truck cranks right up and rpm are correct. chevy 327. |

Re: overheat issue strange
Chris...
Are you able to run it for a few minutes....or does this all happen too quick. What I'm wondering is if you pinched a sending unit wire... I just can't imagine, by the nature of your repair, how you could have disturbed the cooling system. Not that gremlins don't exist.. ![]() And for the record...a severely advanced engine will cause an overheat condition. However....you will usually have other problems...like hard starts...dieseling on shut-off. And maybe even back popping ....like ya said.

Re: overheat issue strange
did the distr hit the firewall when you changed the flywheel. is the distr cap ok or did it move the distr?
I remember years ago always taking off a sbc distr cap when removing an a/t. saved breaking them when you let the back of the eng down ron |

Re: overheat issue strange
I just checked and the thermostat is good. After it cooled, I pulled the top hose off and let it run until the thermostat opened. It may be the timing advanced, but I dont have the hard start issue. I did remove the distributor so that is most likely the problem.
Thanks all. |
