Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

I had two in the mid to late 70's both with a V8. The dog boxes were wider on the later years if I remember right and you did not need to widen them for header clearance. On the early boxes we made removable covers for over the headers and that made it easy to put them on and also change spark plugs. The high tech sound and heat insulation of the time was shag carpet. My daughter does not know it but she has a connection to these trucks and drive in movies.

knew a guy 30+ years ago who shoehorned a 396 into one of those...set the motor back also, to about the middle of the van, it was right across from those side doors. Had wheelie bars, man, that was a wheelstanding muthuh!

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

Here is what I know about the VAN. there were 3 different models Panel, Window and contractor. The contractors os the cool one to me the drivers side is panel and the pass side is window. The engine come out from the bottom. If it needs King pin Bushings you might have trouble finding someone to replace them. [but that is not a deal killer] There are disc brake kits for the front. you can get a dropped axle for the front if you want. It would be best to get one from Pete & Jakes they can make it to the width you need then weld you the holes for the batwings and install your leaf springs. There is a company named Steer Clear they build a cool box. The steering make a 90 great for some thing like this. I have been looking at the Astro Van steering box it also make a 90. Two different wheel bases. Don't remember the lenght off the top of my head. I have had 3 of them

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

I have a friend who is trying to unload a 64 contractor van on me. It's a 327 3spd but it had some wicked full length roof rack and one of the rear doors is crunched.... I'm tempted, but the wife would kill me if I drug it home...

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

Thanks for the paperwork 63C10 .... that was great. I have four 60-66 trucks and more parts than I can warehouse now plus an old nova, but I am still very seriously considering buying this old van an adding it to the collection.

You rarely see 60-66 trucks anymore and never see these old vans around, I think it should be saved

Re: 64'ish Chevy Van ascross scales today

impractical is an under statement! the rear tires are the right rear tires from a World Of Outlaws sprint car. I swear they go flat just looking at them the compound is so soft. I think they are 33x16.5 it's ridiculous and cool all at the same time.
