54 disc brake conversion
I'm converting my 54 Chevy 1/2 ton to 6 lug discs in front. Also using 2.5" drop springs in front and 3" in rear. I understand my stock rims won't fit. I read somewhere that later model chevy 6 lug rims will. I can't seem to find the post with that info and was hoping someone here might help. Also considering going to 16". Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: 54 disc brake conversion
Stock rims might or might not, from my reading. Assuming they won't, you can run any Chevy or Toyota 6 lug rim as they are all 6x5.5"
A 16 or 17" rim should clear any aftermarket kit you can dig up for the stock front axle or most anything else. Note that 16" aluminum rims might not have a *ton* more clearance than 15" steelies, but still should clear. I don't know about back space but from what I have seen, back space measurements on OE wheels from vehicles of a similar type will be the same or darn close. In short: pick out some 6-lug Chevy or Toyota wheels you like at the junk yard & enjoy. Just try to pick a tire with the same external diameter so you don't throw your speedometer too far off when you switch rim sizes. |
