gas cap

I have a 78 suburban 2wd. Im looking at shaving the fill cap. I found a pop up cap off of a motorcycle tank but dont know how to mount it. Anybody done this? Pics would be great. Thanks.

step 1 remove existing gas tank.
step 2 cut out filler cap and surrounding metal
step 3 weld in replacement metal and attach popup cap
Just kidding. I would love to see any pics too if this has been done by a member of the board.

If you got it from a junkyard with a few inches of body panel around it to graft in where your factory filler is, it wouldn't be so bad.

i wouldn't want the chrome but saw one installed on a car show this weekend and it looked kinda cool

The easy way to do either would be to rob the sheetmetal that is designed to accept either cap and weld it in your fender. Then the cap will screw on. But a motorcycle gas tank will likely have some curves around that filler that will have to be flattened and it'll be more difficult to do around the mounting flange. Hence the Challenger suggestion. But I don't see why either couldn't be made to work with a little hammering welding and grinding.
