Lets talk 1960-1961 cast iron mirror arms

No, its the driver side that I have. I only have one passenger side mirror, its pictured above mounted on the mounting plate still. Its the ribbed design. Im really looking for a smooth passenger side myself. Ive been picking them up when I find them. I have a smooth short driver and a long ribbed driver that I would get rid off. Im using the smooth curved arm off the fender mounted spare truck and will be using the ribbed driver side until I find a smooth one. Still gotta find an OEM round mirror for the passenger side.

So the 60's had the smoother mount and the 61 had the ribbed design then. We've been trying to figure it out....mystery solved.

here are a couple more shots, my 61 with the short step/no fender spare measured 8 inches, the black arm was a 60 long step-measured 6 inches, and the short one on my custom truck is a ebay purchase-molded, I assume it is a 60, 6 inches

If you want to part with a mirror, let me know...haha. Ill keep my eyes peeled for two 1960 pass mirror arms now. I have one of the chrome rectangle mirrors...no use for it if someone wants it. I do not know if its OEM or not. Just needs a ride. **mirror head found a home**

Hey jon, I have a few extra cast arms that Im going to list. Wanted to check w/you 1st and see if you found the one you were looking for. I also have 3 62-66 factory arms that im going to list. All are OEM, not repop. Ill get pics today if time or tonight.

Ill continue to keep my eyes posted. I actually found one and had it shipped. UPS delivered a box that looked like a truck ran over it...empty. UPS recovered the cost, but the mirror arm probably ended up in a UPS unclaimed freight auction or thrown out. Was a sad day.

Took me two years just to find two of the factory round mirrors w/the bottom studs. All the repops are center stud mirrors. Saw a mirror head alone go for $125 on ebay a few weeks back. And a 62-66 mirror arm & mirror go for $80 the other day.

Here are some good pics of the factory mirror heads that are so hard to find. Original part #3838535. These are the only two colors I have found the heads in. Notice the bottom stud...the repops are all center studs. Mirrors are 5" across. And the only marking on them that I can find is a stamp (see pic).

And a few pics of another offset mirror I got awhile back. Its the cleanest example I've personally come across....I'm guessing an early dealer take off. But maybe the paint color will help somebody for reference.

That's an exceptionally clean mirror and bracket !! Im noticing two different mirrors though. One mirror has three screws Im going to call 1960-1963 and the other has one screw 1964-1966 , see pictures below. They also have a different thickness and edge shape.

hmmmm....never noticed that. Thanks for bringing that point up. I'll be sure to pay more attention in the future on that. I've also noticed that some are stamped Lo-M at the top center screw. Some off mine have it and some don't.

Was reading in this thread awhile back where another board member (MitchFloyd) had purchased an old military issue mirror head that was offset and 5". I located some of these mirror heads and decided to spend the $24.41 (includes shipping) and compare it to an oem offset mirror head since they are so hard to find and when you do there is normally rust issues on the mirror head or the mirror is no good. The nice oem ones I have found normally run between $35-50 alone with an occassional good price find. I have both trucks outfitted with nice oem ones and now have two of the ones i found for back ups in case one brakes on either truck.

I have enclosed pics of them side by side with an OEM truck mirror head. They are identicle in every aspect except the stamp over the screws. These mirror heads are listed as NOS Jeep Willys mirrors for military issue and came in boxes with military stamps.

Short and sweet of the story is....is your looking for NOS offset mirror heads there are like 8 of them left through the link i'll post below. They aren't mine and I'm not profiting in any way from this, but surely theres other builds where these mirrors are needed and these will look factory minus the stamp. Just thought I'd pass this "honeyhole of offset mirror heads" off in case it'll help someone else.

Condition wise.....they are definitely NOS....the two I got looked brand new and they are already in primer, just need scuffed and painted. They did not come with the mounting nuts, but the screws and mounting studs look like they were dipped in the plating yesterday. Mirror and hardware are show quality. Look to me like they were made from the exact same dies/presses.

Anyways...hope it helps a few trucks out.
