? About an 85 4x4

I was test driving an 85 4x4 with a 3 speed 350 today
My ? Is when i let off the gas a could hear a clunk sound from the rear
The owner said he thought i was the u-joints
Any ideas
Also what a 85 4x4 in ok shape ( has some rust) worth

I have the same exact problem. When i tore the truck apart before i did the restoration, i noticed the throwout bearing on the transmission was shot (replaced), the u-joints on the driveshaft were also shot (replaced), the ring and pinion teeth we pitted and grooved(replaced with a locker) , the bearings and seals on the axel were also shot ( Front and Rear replaced). Unfortunatly, I havent got the truck done yet so i cant figure out wether or not the repairs helped. But thats all the problems ive found so far and i dont really think any of those had anything to do with the sound but i figured id post them cause if you had or have some of these same issues i had, we might be on to something.

Jack one tire on rear up off ground. Rotate front and back and look at where the slop is. U joint, or spiders would be my guess.
