Fuel tank removal

How do you remove the fuel tank on an 82 1 ton? Can It be done without pulling the bed off?

Re: Fuel tank removal

I assume it is like a 3/4 or 1/2 ton. I use concrete blocks and 2 x 4s to prop up the tank. Of course, burn up as much gas as you can to get the tank empty. Remove the bolts holding the straps, lower the rearward end first by removing a couple of 2 x 4s back there, reach up and remove the wires to the sending unit, remove 2 x 4s from the front, now you can see what you have, remove more 2 x 4s and/or concrete blocks until you have it on the floor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Not a hard job - just a dirty one.

Re: Fuel tank removal

I had an issue dropping my tank because the strapped bolted on in a fashion that i could not get to them from the bottom of it. we had to remove the bed.

Re: Fuel tank removal

Pull the bed ( actually you just need to jack it up about 6 inches). Trust me on this one. Check my earlier posts from a few months ago.

Another vote for pulling the bed. Once it's lifted, it makes the job much easier.
