unknown clicking noise!

This thing is driving me nuts, whenever you get into a quiet road and driving and slowly you can hear sounds that apear to be someone sticking something in a fan coming from under the dash or close to it. i stick my head outside the truck while going slow and dont hear but when i stick my head back in the cab there it goes again. when stopped at light or sign do not hear anything. as I gradually speed up the clicking sound becomes repeately faster and faster. any ideas fellas??? i do have to replace the driver side caliper bc the piston isnt engaging as fast as the ps is but i dont think this would be the issue for the unsuspecting noise.

Ok, well does it jump down or up when yours does it? What else could cause this noise to happen? I thought if i can hear it in that cab then i should have been able to hear it with my head outside the window.

Re: unknown clicking noise!

I'm thinking it could be the gears slipping in the speedo? I've noticed the old plastic in the bezel likes to crack and i'm sure since they contact each other could wear them out. Also i just thought of something that caused clicking. i had an exhaust leak that sounded like clicking at certain rpms i thought it was the heat shield under the cab vibrating, nope hole in the muffler

What about these gears breaking tho, would this cause a major issue if its your DD?

Re: unknown clicking noise!

Behind your speedometer there are gears. I would think as they become fatigued a tooth could break off causing the speed to jump slightly as it slips. I doubt it would cause any major issues.

Re: unknown clicking noise!

Check your drive shaft for long Zip-ties. Back in High school we would crawl under our friends truck and attach 2 foot long Zip-ties to the drive shaft. When they drive off it makes a Clicking noise as it bounces off every thing from the gas tank to the muffler LOL

In reality I would check your speedo cable. Or meby U-joints?????
