opinion time...smoothest AD ride
been trying to decide what route i want to go. planned on doing s10 swap, but wanted other opinions. again, i'm looking for SMOOTHEST ride bagged or static. i will probably have to go static at first and save for bagging it. been seriously considering vette IFS and IRS.
what do you guys think? mustang 2, vette, or s10 frame? |

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
Definitely running tires with some sidewall on them either 15's or 16's at the max. I used to drive an S-10 in my last job and was never impressed with the ride of a stock truck.

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
see 48, i drive a lowered s10 daily. its our delivery vehicle. i've grown used to having a slightly rougher ride since i've always driven lowered s10s. just wondering if there was something that was a bit smoother. i can deal with it if that's the best option

Truck arms are by far the best ride for the rear.

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
It's going to depend greatly on your dampening. You can install whatever IFS you want, but if you load it with a set of tight springs and shocks, you're going to stiffen the ride. I'm using a C6 with Phadt coil-overs in my TF and it's going to ride quite firm/harsh/rough....... That's not because of the C6 IFS, it's because of the coil-overs. If you're not using airbags and want a low stance, be prepared for a rougher ride, because you want to set your spring rate tight enough to keep your front fenders off the road.

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
I'm not gonna vote cause I have never rode in any other setup other that an s10. I've had 4 s10's and 2 s10 blazers in the past 20 years, ranging from 3 inches dropped to 6 inches and have never used bags. I have used different methods and have found the best to be use spindles/coils up front but the key is in the rear..... I have found if you take the second spring out from the top that it will soften the ride and lower the truck about +/- 3 inches to boot allowing you to use smaller blocks with the rear still having ample travel. I have 40 series up front and 35's on the rear I put a pair basic monroe shocks on the front and air shocks on the rear and its very good even on the roughest of roads.

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
thank you for your input ssr. i too have owned several s10s that have been lowered and always thought they could be a bit smoother. i will have to consider your idea for the rear. maybe try it on my delivery truck and see what happens.
rinc, i don't see where the hostility is needed. i drive several miles around to car shows. i don't see the problem with trying to make the ride a bit more enjoyable. but thanks for your intellectual response |

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
Stating a fact is hostile ?
I have always assumed with lowering comes a harsher ride. Lower profile tyres, stiffer shocks, spring rates higher ect due to having less clearance.

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
you should re-read post #4 in this thread. i stated i'm used to having a rougher ride. what my question was, what is the smoothest out of those options. since i lower it, should i just try to make it as rough as possible?

Re: opinion time...smoothest AD ride
The 'vette parts may prove to be too wide in the end. 62" to 64" track width, tires will be outside the fender. ANY suspension, lowered out of it's geometric "sweet spot" will loose ride quality. Start with a plan that will keep the lower A-arm close to level at ride height, with a minimum of 4" compression travel from that point. I'd go with a Mustang II based IFS, and 4-bar or leafs in back.
