1976 GMC Interior transformation complete

I finally finished my interior transformation on my 1976 GMC C10. It used to be blue with woodgrain and was showing its age. I really wanted a black/silver chrome looking interior so thats what I did. Previous owner had an aftermarket dash pad with VIN hole so I hated that, it went in trash can and I found me a crackless OEM one and dyed it. Got some different style door panels from bigblock73 Jeff and sprayed them black. The dash trim was painted black and door trim woodgrain (SEM Landau Black). Trim plastics were painted black and I installed a new headliner since old was sagging. New ACC carpet on floor and back of cab behind seat and new door sill trim. I got a NOS gauge bezel and installed a tach cluster with new lense. Also upgraded the stereo and added a set of rear speaker brackets from bigblock73 Jeff. I found a good console and restored that with gmc emblem. The seat belts have all new webbing. I also got a set of procar low back bucket seats and brackets from summitracing and they fit great.

Heres a few before and after pics.

Re: 1976 GMC Interior transformation complete

Great work! Did you have to do any bracket work or drill holes in floor to get the seat in? I'm thinking about using these seat in my 72 C10 and wonder what it will take to get them installed. Thanks for any info you can offer. Mike

Thanks, they make/sell an exact bracket for 73-87 and probably have for 67-72 as well, it uses all factory bolt holes except had to drill one hole for each (front center). The seats come with slides and they bolt to each corner of bracket, it was really an easy install, I was very impressed. The seats recline, slide and even have a map pocket on the backside.

brackets were part # 81196B and 81197B $76.95ea
seats were part # 80-1400-51R and 80-1400-51L and $230.95 each all were in stock and shipped from www.summitracing.com with no oversize charges.

I think the blue interior looked pretty damn good too, but the black is very nice. Do you sit any higher or closer to the wheel with those buckets vs. the bench seat? I've noticed that the factory high back buckets make you sit higher and closer.

I cant tell any difference from height of these versus the bench. If you look at pic showing the bench you can see how high it was on door panel and these seats are right at same point. I have these pulled forward and reclined back so I dont feel closer with my body at all. I had bought a set of oem high backs but didnt realize they didnt recline and only driver side had slides while pass side was fixed so I sold them and went this route. Im 6'2" and these fit me nice.

Man that looks really nice, I was cringing when I read you went with aftermarket buckets but those look like they fit great and blend right in with the style of these trucks. I need to pick up one of those guage bezels for mine...

Re: 1976 GMC Interior transformation complete

Thanks, ya I really wanted to keep this as factory as possible but I mounted the high back buckets and they just werent comfortable for me without the reclining feature. I have looked/searched for low back factory buckets and checked cost of foam and upholstery and that was blowing my budget (this isnt a show truck). I found these and searched around and people that had these in chevelles, hot rods etc really liked them so I took a chance and bought a set, figured I could allways return them to summit. However they look nice and feel great sitting in them so I decided to go with it.

Heres the high backs I installed as a test fit before carpet and before I was gonna send out for upholstery.

AHHHHH that blue dash is the exact dash I'm looking for for my truck. But if I can't find one soon I will be doing the same thing as you except I like my bench seat.

Those seats look great... I'm seriously contemplating these for my '70 GMC now. Did you have to do anything major for the console install?

Thanks I appreciate that. The console was easy, mine came with the floor bracket so all I had to do was position it in center and drill a few holes.

BTW.....Here's a pic of the headliner and trim.

Re: 1976 GMC Interior transformation complete

Ive got a set of later blazer seats that recline that i've been tossing the idea back and forth about putting in. The only thing holding me back now is the right brackets and ive got a sub box behind my bench that I'd probably have to redesign if I put the buckets it. Ive got the same color truck/interior as you and unfortunately someone rattle canned the crack free dash.

Looks very nice, I like the look of those buckets in there. What did you use for the headliner?

Re: 1976 GMC Interior transformation complete

I ordered the headliner from lmc, it has a molded plastic back with the cover glued on it, all you do is take out of box and install. It has cutout for dome light, visor mounts and notches for trim screws. You do have to cut the material at those openings but thats no biggie. The cloth one I got in black was $149 plus shipping.

Your interior looks great! Thanks for the seat info too as that is now what I will be installing in the near future. I love the look of low back buckets.

No problem, its nice having a company making seat brackets and seats that fit a 73-87
