My New DD

new to the board, but not to square bodies.

just sold my '78 El Camino SS and picked up a 1982 Sierra Classic Jimmy. it's a 350/350, Edelbrock top end kit, power everything, AC and cruise. i have records back to the original purchase, including the option sheet. it was originally carmine red/white two-tone, with a white top. needs a little work, and the vacuum lines need attention...when they took the QJ off, they just cut everything

more pictures to come, here is one from yesterday when bringing it home.

needs repainted and some minor attention here and there, but it is a solid driver and 98% rust free.

Re: My New DD

Nice score on the Jimmy. Looks pretty clean and in great shape from here. Have fun cruising around in it.

Re: My New DD

Worked out a few more bugs with the K5.

Fixed the AC issues, it was blowing at the floor only, so I changed out the little white clip on the diverter door, and hooked the vacuum bulb back up.

Built a stereo box and attached it to the console, so now I have tunes again. Went with a Kenwood HU and 6x9's for the rear, trying to decide what to do for some bass in the rear. I have an older Kenwood sub-tube that needs a new speaker, but I go a different route. This whole rig is different for me, in the past its always been about speed and power on my builds. This one is going to be about comfort and tunes...haha.

I may add a posi unit to the rear to make winter traction a little better.

My next jobs are adding tailpipes and fixing the non-working wipers. Tried a new motor and that didn't solve the problem. I have power at my plug ends, so I'm wondering if my switch isn't working properly....

Re: My New DD

here are some pics of the box...nothing too crazy or custom. i didn't want to cut the dash, and i wanted it up high enough where it was easy to reach and wouldn't get coffee spilled on it.

Re: My New DD

played with the wipers and got them to work, then this morning they wouldn't shut off....so i may need to look into the "cancel switch" on the motor.

changed the top on the stereo encloser, didn't like the way it looked. made a filler panel to cover up the old shaft radio hole, now i just need to black out the self tapping screws. used VHT crinkle paint, love the stuff, especially for a factory interior trim look. i also covered up the primer spots above the driver on the cab and back by the fuel door on the rear quarter.

had tailpipes put on at Kearney Muffler in Kearney, MO. great guy to work with, his prices are very reasonable, and the work is quality. i'll put my own stainless tips on, just haven't decided what i want yet.

Re: My New DD

rebuilt a Quadrajet last week to swap in place of the Eddy 1406. what an improvement! i forgot how great of a street carb they are. just need to get my choke dialed in and its good to go(thinking in need a new pull-off). electric window motors need some attention next, the driverside is getting really bad, hoping its the gear on the motor and not the regulator.....

started looking for some 5-lug rally wheels also. going to go for a classic look, with a two-tone black and white paint scheme.
