thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Im thinking about droping my truck 3 & 4. If I were to use 3" spindles up front and a shackle hanger combo for the back. Would my stock shocks be ok?

It is cheaper to go with 3" drop coils up front. What are the pros and cons of that?

Also I have been looking at Crown Suspension. Its priced low, does anyone know of it?

Spindles over springs, the ride will be better, especially for a 3" drop. You will need drop shocks, and you should consider a flip in back...most of us who do the shackle/hander drop (including me!), take it back out and put in a flip. If you do go 4" in back, keep your stock hangers just to be safe.

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

i would go with spindles and a flip kit, that way WHEN you want to go a couple inches lower. it will be cheap and easy with cutting one coil and drop shackles or hangers

That truck will look cool lowered.I did a 4/6 belltech kit.3 in drop spindles and 1 in coil's.In back a flip kit and c notch get's you 6. Iv'e been very happy with the ride.It came with nitro shocks.I'm not sure if that's a belltech product or not.Good luck with it and post a pic or two when you drop it.

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

I know its a different year model and all but I'm looking to do a 3/5 on my 77 but the only thing that's different is I'm actually going to be buying new shocks for the whole truck should i still use shackles for the front?

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Think I will get some 3" spindles!

Im pretty set on a 3-4 drop for now. I dont want/need it real low. Do you have to remove the bed to install the hangers? I have access to a lift.

Will any "drop shock" work? Or do they have to match ther parts you have?

Sorry guys I have never lowered anything before!

BUT after looking around a 5" flip sounds easy enough? Maybe go 4-5?

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Thanks! I hope it turns out ok.

If you do a 3, 5 drop won't the back be lower than the front? I dont like that look! I want level or slightly higher in the back... guess if it didnt look right could always cut a coil or buy drop coils. But I would rather do it right the first time. I would like to see a 3, 5 drop anyone got that on here?

77 sb: Google search toxic shocks you will find a vendor. Maybe ebay?

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Mine is lowered 5/7. If I sit a level on my bed rail it is perfectly level. These trucks sit 2" higher in the back. It is deceiving because the fender openings are not the same height front to back.

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Went ahead & ordered 3" DJM spindles and 4" shackles and hangers.

Questions:

Can you use your stock shocks with this set up? Do you have to change anything else besides the spindles in the front like.....like brake lines? Just don't want any supprises...

Please post some pics of 3/4 drops or if there is a thread on here about it.

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

How much of a drop can you do before one has to do a c-notch. I have thought about dropping mine but don't want to notch it. Just looking for it to get lowered with the best ride possible.

Also there was a guy around here that put some sort of cadillac suspension under the front of his but not sure what components he used to make it happen. He said it made the ride alot nicer although it wasn't lowered.

It looks like it sets pretty level. If you want a bit of rake, consider cutting a half coil and see if you like it.

Thanks!
DJM - 3" spindles & 4" Hangers & Shackles. It is level, I put a 4' level down the bed & its dead on. I might cut a 1/2 coil later but Im going to run it like this until I get it painted.

Re: thinking about lowering my 84 swb

Well I went ahead & ordered some 2 inch drop coils from Brothers, that should rake it out! Hope my tires don't end up rubbing the fenders! Think 2" will be to much?
