This is simple but have you checked the spark plugs?

Re: 85 with 305 starting trouble
Yesterday try to start on second time it turn over started. Pull a trailer with lawn mower 3 mile mow grass for 2 hours load back up started on second turn again. Each time just turn key not touch gas peddle. Two day ago turn key turn over a lot ,push gas turn over some more push gas again no started. I let it sit for about 2 hours try again same thing no start. I put plug wires dis cap on about a year ago may need to check them.

Dude, seriously, I can barely understand what's going on in your posts. If you want people to answer you, then you probably should structure your sentences a little better......but I'm guessing you're doing this on a phone...
Anyway, almost everytime I had a starting issue it was related to the coil button. Try that...good luck

Re: 85 with 305 starting trouble
how open is the choke?
do you pump the gas at all when starting? cold carbs need 2-3 shots before it will have enough to fire cold
