which front end?

I am restoring a 65 chevy c 10. Someone has put a different front end under the truck with disk brakes and 5 lugs. I dont know if it is pre 73 or after 73. The reason I need to know is because it does not have a steering box and I need to know which steering box I need. Here are some pictures.

Re: which front end?

I dont know if Id get hung up on what steering box you need. I have a 80's era power steering box on my 61 and it works great.

Re: which front end?

That is a '73-'87 front suspension. You don't have to know exactly what year your suspension is to be able to convert to power steering. All the '68-'87 truck power steering boxes mount the same. The one difference is the style of hose fittings changed in 1980 from SAE to Metric with an O-ring. With that consideration, it simplifies the installation if you get a steering box and steering pump with the same style of fittings.

Go later model, the ratio of the gear boxes is different ,,,,,,you can use one from a pick up truck from 73-1987 but you can also use one from a 73 to 1991 suburban..........the later suburban gearboxes are quicker........than the mid 70's boxes do not know the exact time for ratio changes.

Re: which front end?

Your original steering column shaft will have to be shortened when you convert to power steering.
