63 engine/trans swap?
I'm planning on replacing my 283/3sp column with a 350/350 column on my shortbed C-10. I have converted to power steering already. I have an auto column from a 67 will that work or should I look into an aftermarket column? My engine mount towers are in the rear position. I'd like to move them forward to get some dist. clearance. Will a short shaft 350 be the right length or will I need a longer or 2 piece drive shaft? I'd like to leave the parking brake cross member the way it is. I have a couple different factory crossmembers from 67 up trucks and one from a Nova. Would one of these work or should I fab one up? Also, what do you guys do for a neutral safety switch? Sorry for all the questions, I would like to have a good plan in place before I pull the old engine/trans out so I can do this job as quickly as possible. Thanks for any replies.

Re: 63 engine/trans swap?
If you want to move the engine forward, you will need the motor mount brackets for a '67-'72 with a small block. The brackets you have will not work, they are too long. I've never had a problem with HEI distributor clearance with the engine in the original location. The factory truck trans crossmembers will work just fine. That's what I have always used. You will just need to drill the bolt holes once you have it in position. The driveshaft length and configuration will have to be determined once you get the engine and trans where you want it. Your '67 auto column should have a neutral safety switch on it.

Re: 63 engine/trans swap?
Thanks Captainfab. I have an HEI in it now. It clears but barely. Is the wiring pigtail the same on a 67 column?

The plug is not the same. I don't know if the wiring colors are the same or not. I know there are wiring diagrams here on the forum, that you could use to compare.
