'64 Air Vent Gaskets

Claire's my C10 and currently I'm working on restoring her kick panel air vents. When I pulled out the air vents, the rubber gaskets we're beyond shot. I'm close to putting things back together, but can't locate the gaskets that go between the vents and kick-panel. I ordered air vent seals from Classic, thinking they were what I needed, but was a mistake ... however a good one (it does happen once in a while).

The short of it, with all the rebuilds here, it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction instead of spending several frustrating hours searching the Internet.

ACK, All of the after market places sell the gaske. However, the oem one are a solid rubber piece. the news one only "ring" the vent. These work 'O.K.' I did a full photo rebuild in my webshots album. Take a look on the restoration.

I ground down the rivets, cleaned, sandblasted and repainted all parts. I used spray glue to fix the new gaskets in place than sandwished then together using low profile bolts and nuts. Works just like originals.

Thanks, JBGroby. That happens to be the part I received from Classic. Great advice on how to take apart and reassemble.

I'm not giving a good description. They say a picture is worth a million words ... here's an opening with the gasket's outline along with some chunks. Ignore the rust, it's on the "to do" list.

BTW, when I removed the passenger side vent, I found a giant mouse nest and the driver's side had 2 huge abandoned wasp nests. I'm sure most of us have found some interesting stuff left behind by Mother Nature in there - and other places, too.

Why not cut new ones outta tire innertubes. Use the vent as template.

For the last 20 years I've had this truck inner tube sitting on a shelf and each time I saw it, would ask myself why am I keeping this thing. Must be Karma, thanks for the great suggestion.

Yer welcome. When yer done cuttin out two, cut out two more and sell em to me....no inner tubes here so I'm lookin for an "Easy Button".

I made a foam core template (on the left) to easily create multiples. The tube is a good thickness and the end product (on the right) is fine enough for a piece no one will ever see.

Sharp40, PM me your address and I'll get a pair out to ya' at no charge. My truck is a '64, but I don't know which years share the same screw pattern, so let me know if you do or don't want the holes for the screws.
