Can't for the life of me figure out...

Why my Center Link is rubbing on my front cross member. Re-did the front end, 72 componets...Pitman arm hasn't moved, Idler arm was taken off but put back on. Center link isn't backwards, WTF! I've noticed a couple of other guys had this problem but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Center Link does not seem bent at all, everything looks right but obviously isn't. Just perplexed...

The problem may be the idler arm. Looking up the 1966 idler arm it appears to fit a variety of Chevy cars and trucks from 1961-1966. The 1972 idler arm seems to fit trucks from 1967-1982. If either the arm length or mounting angle is different, that may be causing your problem.

Did you install power steering also? If so what box, and what pitman arm did you use. Is the idler arm the stock '66 piece? What year is the steering linkage. Is it original or '72 components?

Idler arm bolted on incorrectly(or ps box mounted incorrectly) would be where I'd look first. With center link centered and truck sitting on the ground, the cl should be parallel to top front edge of X-member(NOT upwards or downwards)--also slightly ABOVE this front edge. It should also run parallel from an end view, not front-to-back (OR back-to-front). Also, you cannot use the original pitman arm: it is too straight/flat, and you'll need the one with a downward s-curve.
