75 c10 - removing interior side panels

hey guys. trying to rip out (in tact) my side panels in my 75 c10.

I got the window crank removed, undid the bolts in the arm rest.

most of the door lifts free, but it seems stuck and pulls what appears to be extra items with it at the top where it meets the actual window. I stopped pulling up on it due to the amount of force i was beginning to exert. There's a thin black piece that seems to be similar to a type of weather stripping that is keeping attached at the top, though it does seperate. tehre are little metal bracket things attached to it, but not to each other.


should i keep lifting up and seperating the two pieces? and if the black stuff comes out, just push it back down?

i stopped prematurely just to avoid doing undesired damage.

I don't have a picture as this was super late at night when i was attempting this and i had to hit work at 4am this morning, so didnt have light to shoot a pic.



if not clear, the bottom/sides seem to come away free. just sticking at the top near the glass.

After getting the panel loose to where it will lift, except for across the window, you should be able to push the door panel upwards, and rock it a bit, and it should pop off. The black strip along the glass stays on the panel. The panel just hooks over the metal frame of the door, along the top.

Rolling down your window helps also.

not sure if it's the same, prolly is. On my 86 there's metal.clips on the top that hold it on. I think they actually make a tool.to take them off. I attempted this a while back ( due to window issues). To be honest I took a screwdriver to mine, ( very carefully) and got them out. I'm sure there is a easier way, but I just messed with mine a bit til they popped off.

If you have all the screws removed you need to push the top of the panel firmly toward the window at the sametime lift it up to remove it. There are small clips holding the door panel to the door just be careful.

Yup^^^^^...sometimes putting a little pressure upwards and giving it a smack at the top will make it pop off.

ahhhh, that black panel is supposed to come with the interior panel... really glad i asked you guys. i wasnt far from thinking they should seperate (as the left side already had begun to split).

I'll baby it tonight when i get home. really good advice guys. I'll try pressing the door in while lifting up if i can tonight as well.


any tricks getting it past the door handle? should i "lock" the door to make the lever shorter to clear?

with the lock knob unscrewed,and lock it
i stretch out the handle as tho i'm opening it
lift bottom away,i put palm on panel inside,fingers across resting on lowered glass edge
push up, in, should release it,not too hard may crack panel
may still have to poke clip to release,outside lean looking in
