Which Year(years) Suburban do you like?

I previously had an '89 Suburban(TBI) and was thinking of getting another Suburban. Are the Subs that came after carbs and TBI okay to work on or just a pain, what do you like? Thanks for any input.

Looks wise, other than grilles and the general front end change in '81,they all "look" the same and I like them all. As far as carb vs TBI goes,it's all the same to me. I'd take either if the vehicle was nice. I've only had one TBI vehicle,a '90 Blazer w/350,and in 193,000 miles I never touched anything to do with TBI. Ran like clock. Most people feel it's carburators that are the PIA. I've never had much trouble with those, either. I only like the 3/4t Suburbans...in any year

Re: Which Year(years) Suburban do you like?

I love the mean look of the 73-79 Burbs. All Carb'd, 3/4 ton's in these yrs came with full float rear axles.

79-80 had that funky Single headlights that had the turn signals incorperated into the headlight housings. Did I mention that the Dana 44 was replaced with a 10bolt?

81-86 Brought in the era of crappy 4spd autos(700r4), Chain driven/Aluminum transfer-case, and power-robbing smog equipment. Great looking grille though. Full float rear axle, no longer a option for 4x4.

87-91-Best years for dependability/drive-ability.. 700r4's saw improvements, but best of all.. Fuel Injection. Manual Trans got easier to drive with the addition of a hydraulic clutch. Only problem with these years. No factory 454 v8 in 4x4 Burbs.
I have owned or own:
78-k20 305(now 350)/465/205 10bolt(now dana 60)/14bff
83-k20 350(454swap)/700r4/208 10bolt/14bolt semi
91-k10 350/700r4/241c 10bolt/10bolt(14bff swap)

I don't think that there is a best yr for these trucks.. I like the mid 80's for the looks. The late 70's for the axles/drivetrain, and the 87+ for the grill and fuel injection.
Pick your poison and start making something.
