Re: determing engine block numbers
Thank you Bruceman !!
I bought the TBI 305 as a 350,, oh well. I'll stick it in something,, it's a good running motor. The '80 350 will probably be the motor for my C20,,, I just don't think the 305 will do what I want it to do,,,, the truck has the 3:54? gears and I am planning on running a 700R4. I'm planning on it being a daily driver with the occaisional trailer towing. Maybe the 305 might work with a 268H cam, performer intake, Q-jet,big rams horns and dual exhaust. Thank You all very much for the information !!! Take care !! Tom |

Re: determing engine block numbers
Tom, I did notice that the date code for the TDS motor is C318 which is march 31 1978. When there is a discrepancy like that casting date trumps engine ID stamp, so call it a 1978, 350 and build away.

Re: determing engine block numbers
May I please hijack for a while? I have one I need too. Bought a motor and just want a bit more info on it. Looks like a 350 that the bottom end may have been rebuilt. Just guessing as it has brass freeze plugs in it with factory paint color over them.
EDIT: After power washing and letting it dry, there is Orange under the Blue....... It's another 3970010 It is an auto trans crank in it. Thanks guys for the help.

Re: determing engine block numbers
Thanks BruceMan. That's what I found too. That is what it origanally was. I found I'll have to tear it down to find out what it really is now.
Thanks again, vince.
