Noob Got a 4.8 and have some questions

I just picked up an 02 4.8 cable pull. I'm very new to this and my drivetrain is clapped out. I figured if I was going to upgrade I might as well do it "right"

I'm pretty certain I want to go with a TKO to avoid hydro clutch (unless this is not a big deal to convert). I do want overdrive but I WILL NOT HAVE AN AUTO!

My main question is something that I cannot find any details on: can you leave the factory harness untouched and run the factory fuse block? Or I guess it should be "how". I saw the one guy did it but had no details on it. I understand using the factory harness and block is not pretty but is it functional? If I could get away with this, for now, I likely would change down the road. The cost of the trans and everything else that is absolutely necessary for the swap is high enough already...

I'm pretty decent with wiring but for this I don't think I would want to modify the harness myself. Just looking for your guys input! Thanks

And a pic

Come on... ha somebody has to have atleast an opinion on this!? If not real knowledge, an opinion is better than nothing!

They discuss it a little bit here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=517347&page=2

But never really go in depth...

You should just get it overwith and modify your harness now while it is out of the truck. I stressed doing it myself, but found it to be very easy, and fun to do. LT1swap.com has everything you need to know, and in great detail. You cant go wrong.

OPINION
Its a bad idea. The wiring looks crappy, will be a mess, and will be hard to troubleshoot for you...and a pain should you ever need to have work done at a shop.
My old fuse block actually melted down from the inside out, and was at risk for a fire at any time. The old corroded terminals, cracked wiring, and previous modification or changes for accessories etc by the previous owner. Its also kind of a pain to need a mix of glass and ATC/ATX type fuses. While its a bit of money, and a bit of a pain at times, having new wiring is a blessing in the future. Going on a roadtrip and having an electrical failure is a day-ruiner.

Re: Noob Got a 4.8 and have some questions

Ok thanks guys. I'll have a look at lt1swap, maybe I can do it... If I were to buy one I was looking at tech rods. Anybody used one of those harnesses?
